YES!!!

Never thought he would win when he was a break down in the second, but excellent comeback And in the third he saved 3 break points and that shows his great fighting spirit ^^ soo happy to see him through

Vinciguerra seems to be very popular around here. Is it his name? Can't find any reason.

Yes, that's his name. You can't find a reason for his name or his popularity?

I can't find a reason for his popularity. I was saying it could be because of his name like with Gulbis (people love to call him Ernie which is an amusing name).

Usually it has not much to do with the tennis when lower ranked players are so popular. So it must be something else.

must be because although most of people here started following tennis in 2003 or later there are still a few that watched it before then

Re: Vinciguerra beats Mendez-Maceiras 4-6 6-3 6-4

bilbo, he was pretty much injured for 6 years. Some are just fans of him because of the nationality, others like him for different reasons and are happy to see him try and make a comeback after all the problems.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Bilbo, Vinci was in the top 35 or so many years ago, and those that remember it (and his game) still like seeing him do well.

MTFers also seem to like rooting for those coming back from injury.

Well he used to be a high ranked player and is making a comeback, it's understandable that his fans are excited about it

Re: Vinciguerra beats Mendez-Maceiras 4-6 6-3 6-4

Vinciguerra could have developed into a constant top 30 player. With 17 yo he was winning futures. With 18 he reached Bastad final and won Szeczin CH. Then he beat Marat 3x in a row at in 2000 with 19yo winning Copenhagen ATP. He lost to Sampras in three sets at Miami Masters. . A very bad loss to Guga at RG (0-6 0-6 3-6), followed by winning Prostejov CH. Reached Bastad final again losing to Norman. Finished 2000 as almost top50. At 2001 lost to Kafelnikov at R16 AUS open, reached Copenhagen final, After that he satrted losing badly, but he still reached semifinals at Rome masters (d.Grosjean l to Kuerten) and semifinal at Paris (d.Ivanisevic, Safin l to Kafelnikov), reaching his best ranking, 33. After that he was never the same, and he cvould have got room to improve. What happened to him? Was he some kind of irregular player, who could beat top 10 but lose badly many weeks in a row? Did he get tired of tennis after slipping on ranking at 2002. I thiunk he was an enormous talent that have not coped whith tennis agenda or injuries.

The reason for his popularity I think was because he could beat the best players sometimes (like Safin three times in a row or even baby Federer, Wayne Ferreira etc) but eh never became a big player so people still have some hope.

Re: Vinciguerra beats Mendez-Maceiras 4-6 6-3 6-4

Adrian Pretty good scoreline, actually, considering Vinci's good run last week, and considering he is better on hardcourts.

Vinci Continue the impressive comeback.

His performance at DC against Israel this year kinda won me over, watching him give it his all after not playing for 3 years was remarkable.
