How did you get into tennis?

Well I used to go to a local club which had a couple of tennis courts when I was 10 (now I'm 25), and my parents bought me a new Dunlop racket and I started playing with friends and took a couple of lessons, but I wasn't really consistent, I used play once every week or so then I forgot all about it until I reached 21-22 years when I met a friend who had a tennis court at his house, so we started hitting together and later on I started searching for some amateurs local tournaments to participate in, of course I always got out at the first round unless my opponent in the first round was a 10 year old player lol, anyways during those tournaments I met lots of people in my area and made new friendships and from that time till now I play like 3-4 times a week and I am getting better and better with time but of course it's nothing serious, i just play for fun

What about you guys?

Just started taking tennis class this week. I'm having trouble getting the ball over the net.

Seeing McEnroe live @ the Aussie Open in 1985 [Kooyong grass courts]..
Then especially seeing Pat Cash lead Aus to defeat the Swedes @ the same venue in 1987 [Davis Cup final]..

Re: How did you get into tennis?

When I was 5, I had a crush on a boy who played tennis, so I got sucked into it and wanted to try it myself. The crush faded, tennis stayed.
It's the only sport that I've ever liked.

Why am I not surprised by this? No hate though, I enjoy your hardcore fanboying.

My Dad taught me when I was 10 and I've just been playing ever since. Played 4 years in highschool and now I play for my college and teach it as a part time job.

Good thread, it will get moved to some other sub-forum though where no-one will ever post in it again so that we can have more room for another thread about weak eras/Federer's complete lack of talent/some other bullshit.

Nadal Federer Wimbledon 2007

Not too long thereafter I watched a Master series for the first time, and realized there was really good tennis being played outside the slams.

Re: How did you get into tennis?

There's a tennis club located in my childhood neighbourhood, a minor one with two clay and one hard court. My mother is still a member there.

Thank you for not reporting my post.

Re: How did you get into tennis?

I'd like to say that I mugged a rich guy and kept his racket just to look dangerous , and as a result ever since I loved it, but the bare truth is that my uncle and aunt gave me a wooden racket when I was ten... and ever since I loved it.

He cannot kick with his left foot, he cannot head a ball, he cannot tackle and he doesn't score many goals. Apart from that he's all right.

Re: How did you get into tennis?

There was a coach who used to coach near my house...one day my dad went and talked to him, and a few days later I began taking lessons. This was in 2005, and they were also showing the Shanghai masters on TV at the same time...so I basically started watching and playing tennis at the same time.

Re: How did you get into tennis?

I'd watched a fair amount beforehand, but my love of it started with the Sampras-Ivanisevic 1998 W Final

| Wins over 3+ of the Top 4. Players to reach all slam QFs+ in history. Hawkeye/Line Calls. QFs+ at Slams & Masters, but never Top 20.
Haas / The Fog / Tsonga / Brown / Mahut / Dolgo / Fed / Baker / Alund / Tursunov / Copil / Bolelli / Brands / Benneteau / Gojowczyk / Steps / PHM
Rafter / Edberg / Henman / Stich / Safin / Gambill / Grosjean / Malisse / Gonzo / Llodra / Santoro / Agassi / Schalken / Nováček / Rosewall / H-T Lee / Kuerten / Boetsch / Pavel / Sundström / Björkman / Scud / El Aynaoui / Arazi / Calleri / Sampras / Nalbandian / Mosquito / Srichaphan

Re: How did you get into tennis?

Started playing back in 1999 at age 11 when I saw an advertisment at my school of my club wanting to recruit people. I figured what the hell and started playing once a week for a year. Two-handed backhand and the worst Penn-racquet ever. I didn't follow any pro-tennis at the time, only seriously started following the tour in late 2002/early 2003, by that time I'd also changed to a one-handed backhand which I've been perfecting to this day. Today I play 4 or 5 times a week. I was rated 4.5 NTRP a year ago, but my game is more complete now so I could maybe gone to 5.0 but my previous coach has moved so I don't have any qualified american coaches to rate me properly.

Roger Federer. Legend.
