Who can stop Rafa?

Are we witnessing the best tennis season ever by an individual(rafa) or will he burn out after the french open with non stop play.

Lets see. we could be witnessing the best season ever by a pro.

Who can stop him?

The contenders

1. Andy murray -if there is someone to figure out an opponent it is murray. He has figured out both federer and djokovic and how to play them. He has figured out nadal on faster courts(but when nadal isn't playing well enough). He has not figured out nadal when the surface speed slows slightly. He tried different tactics in Monte carlo(high moonballs) which worked to a degree. Blitz serving, and hammering his groundstrokes also helped. Probably the best chance to stop a tired nadal(but after the clay season). Last beat rafa in Rotterdam.

Nadal's way of countering the murray threat is to play aggressive and punish the forehand of murray.

2. Djokovic - winning 2nd set in MC gives him some confidence. But he has zero chance of doing it on clay with a 6-1 blowout deciding set suggesting his fitness hasnt improved. He has a chance at queens though, on a quicker surface. Hasn't beaten rafa since Cincinatti.

3. Federer - the least chance of the top 3 as he is very poor form. His backhand would be ruthlessly exposed by Nadal, but he can come from nowhere and be dangerous at Wimbledon especially if his serve and forehand catch some heat, and if nadal's level drops off. If he drops some ranking, could face rafa in semis of the big W depending on draw which could be dangerous for him. Hasn't beaten rafa since 2007 masters!

4. Others - Tsonga, Verdasco, Ferrer, Del Potro. We know del potro stopped an out of sorts nadal in miami.Hardcourts seem to be the place where Rafa can lose to anybody. Verdasco's form has dropped since AO level. Tsonga's gone completely. Ferrer's level has picked up but he is no match for rafa. Del potro's level has declined since Miami.

Looking objectively, Nadal looks lights ahead of the competition, and i think it could be the best season ever, he is taking the game to new heights. He is the fittest in the game and doesn't tire easily, though mentally he can go walkabout every now and then as he is human(e.g. against Del potro).

Re: Who can stop Rafa?

Hasn't this been posted a few times already? Moreover, the question should be posed in a rhetorical manner, as in, "Who can stop Rafa." without the question-mark.

Re: Who can stop Rafa?

This gets posted at least 3 times a week in different forms, but repackaging of the same shit with a different label.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: Who can stop Rafa?

Personally, I do not believe anyone *will* stop him. I'm buying into the whole "he changed the grip on his forehand" talk. After watching the Barcelona final, it looks awfully flat to me (relatively of course). If he can keep it that flat, holding all other things equal, he will win The Grand Slam.

Personally, over five sets, and on fast hard courts, Murray is the only one who even has a prayer, and I believe an on-form Nadal beats an on-form Murray 10/10 times on any surface. IMO, the Murray-ettes did too successful a job of excusing away the 6-1 6-2 demolition that took place a couple months ago. And lest we forget Wimbledon 2008 as well (perhaps the best match of Nadal's 2008 season and quite a demolition).

Sure he's serving like crap now, but it's still clay season. He'll kick that up a notch come grass, and then it's on!

If I lose the first set, the match will be complicate, no?

My favorite Federer and Nadal quotes following their 2008 Wimbledon final:

“But right now, it’s not much of a how do you say? a feel-good thing.”
-Roger Federer
"In the last game, I didn't see nothing. The true, I wasn't see nothing, no?"
-Rafael Nadal

I can't comprehend how anyone could post this thread and think it was original and never done before.

What does this have to do with what's being discussed here?

One of the poll options is "no- best season ever". I assume this is what he's getting at. Though Federer's 06 doesn't hold the title either imo, not over Laver's GS year.

You cant compare Laver's season to Feds, its too different. Tennis is 100x more competitive and professional these days.
