Exhibition in memory of Federico Luzzi

As it was said in other thread, there were some exhibition matches played today at Rome in memory of Federico Luzzi.

Not that the results of the matches really matter, but just to make a note of it:

Fognini 6-4 Lopez
Djokovic 6-4 Seppi
Bracciali 6-1 Robredo
Murray 6-3 Bolelli
Volandri 6-4 Safin
Federer 7-5 Starace
Del Potro 6-4 Cipolla

Bracciali destroyed Robredo out there

Re: Exhibition in memory of Federico Luzzi

I remember seeing a match Luzzi played against Coria at the AO 2006. First set was dramatic, the tiebreak ending 10-8 or something of that order. Luzzi could scarcely believe he'd lost the set after all the opportunities he'd had, and Coria quite sincerely put his hand on Luzzi's shoulder at the change of ends in a consoling manner!

Sad to think of now...

Tribute by Federer, Djokovic, Robredo, Safin, Starace, Seppi, Bolelli, & Volandri

Good to see this generosity of spirit by the pros.

Federer, Djokovic Among Those To Remember Federico Luzzi
© Annamaria Pedani

Federer with Luzzi's parents Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic led an all-star cast of ATP World Tour players who played exhibition matches at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia Sunday to raise funds for FedeLux, a leukemia foundation established in the memory of former player Federico Luzzi, who died of the disease last year aged 28.

Federer, Djokovic, Tommy Robredo, Marat Safin, Potito Starace, Andreas Seppi, Simone Bolelli and Filippo Volandri took part in the exhibition, which was attended by Luzzi’s parents Maurizio and Paola.

Federer said: “It was a nice match for me to play, knowing that Federico is up above watching us, having his parents here.”

Djokovic, who wore a shirt with an image of Luzzi, said: “We played in his honour and for the foundation that his family has created to fight against leukemia. It was very emotional for all of us who knew him. He was a very positive guy and I always remember him with a smile on his face.”

shut up

it was nice of the players to do this, at least the atp locker room isn't as fucked up as the players' fanbases on this forum

rest in peace poor luzzi, in fact the other day i was just looking at the ao 06 draw and saw his name and it just seems like he passed away such a short time after

It must have been very emotional for Fede's parents and close friends like Starace

Re: Exhibition in memory of Federico Luzzi

Federer was good friends with Luzzi on the junior tour.

Bracciali can't win a match to any loser on the challenger level R1, but taking exho results for true is an MTF thing
