Barcelona R2- Nadal defeats Gil 6-2, 6-2

Frederico pulled up some fight in several games of the match, not giving Rafa many bps, but eventually gave up. Nice effort, though.

As usual, Nadal a little bit too rusty in the first rounds.

He cannot kick with his left foot, he cannot head a ball, he cannot tackle and he doesn't score many goals. Apart from that he's all right.

Rusty? I thought he played better today than he did in any of the matches on Monte Carlo.

Time to go for 4 hour training session.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Yes he did, but still not to his best level, even for a 2nd round don't you think? Anyway, it's obviously not the same playing Gil than Muzza or Nole, with all due respect to the Portuguese.

his royal "rustyness" needs to shake the rust off. perhaps he will start to show his usual sharpness by the time he enters the latter stages of Rome Masters.

#13 seeded Gasquet is the next victim.

at least 2 hours anyway. do you remember how Vilas used to go and practice for 90 minutes or better after some of his matches?

Gil didnt make any threat, though good fight and style... Nadal must love to practice with him in this match. The court is faster and Nadal's stronger, hit ball harder. Love it

Who else do you lose to 6-2 6-2 and come off court feeling good about yourself?

I guess he played subpar, but at least not awful.
