Re: Biggest choke ever?

that famous Calleri's choke against Koubek was in Sopot 2007, not Acapulco, 6-0 6-7 5-7

im surprised that no one mentioned choke kings like Soderling or Mathieu

Coria in RG 2004 was not a choke, he was injured. I dont know how can someone threat in other way...

I remember also Florian Mayer, Sergio Roitmann, Chucho Acasuso and of course Yevgenyi Korolev are famous from big chokes, but dont remember matches...

Rafael Nadal, David Ferrer, James Blake, Gael Monfils, Luis Horna, Ricardo Mello, Marcos Baghdatis, Simone Bolelli, Potito Starace, Sergio Roitman, Donald Young, Scoville Jenkins, Michał Przysiężny

Re: Biggest choke ever?

I remember Stepanek-Spadea; OZ open; Radek led 6-2 6-2 5-3* and lost 2-6 2-6 7-5 6-2 6-3 and this one is really huuuuuge
Zib-Kohlmann; St. Poelten 2005; Tomas led 6-2 5-4 *40-15(Kohlmann saved 3 mp in this game) and then Zib led 6-0 in Tie break and had 7 MP in tie break and lost 2-6 7-6(7) 6-4

Cramp is not an injury.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: Biggest choke ever?

A thread about the biggest choke ever and no one talk of Mathieu, the master of choking !
In 2006, in Monte-Carlo PHM was 6-1, 4-0 against Coria and finally lost it 1-6,7-6(6),6-4 despite he had two match points in the tie-break of the second set...

Re: Biggest choke ever?

Ljubo was up 6-4 6-4 5-1 and lost to Wayne Ferreira in 5 sets not long after the Saulnier one.

Roitman was up 6-1 5-0 in Valencia and lost to Korolev 1-6 7-5 6-0.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Re: Biggest choke ever?

Waske led Tursunov something like 6-0 4-0 in Bucharest before losing in 3.

Calleri when he served for the match at 40-0 v Blake in new Haven when having lost about 3 points on serve all match.

Ferrer led 6-1 in the 1st set tiebreak againt Robredo in the Hamburg QF in 06 before losing it. Massive considering it was his best ever chance to win a Masters event and he'll never get another one like it (semi v ancic, final v radek..

Did Chela lead with a break in the second set? I know he had *4:1 in the third.

I hope you're not completely sure about what you've written... According to you, Kohlmann saved 10 match points there.

Zib led 6-2, 5-2 and twice served for the match but was unable to finish it. In the tie-break, he held leads of 6-1 and 7-6 but was again unable to come away with the win.

According to German and English description of that match, Kohlmann saved 6 match points in that match, only in tie-break, albeit Zib was serving for match twice.

Re: Biggest choke ever?

Toad up a set and 2 breaks against Baghdatis at the AO and lost in 4.

Acasuso did the same against Dlouhy at RG. Another Acasuso classic up 2 sets to 1 and 5-1 in the final of Stuttgart against Ferrer and lost in 5.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

The Horna-Mathieu match at the AO a few years ago was comical as well. IIRC Horna had double breaks in both the first two sets, but ended up losing both sets, right?

I was at that match it was ridiculous. Only I'd support guys that have choked against Mathieu, Horna, Koubek, Seppi and the King.

Horna killing him big time yes, he was up 5-2 and a double break in the 1st 2 sets and lost in straight.

Not the worst ever, but funny Ginepri leading Mantilla 6-3 5-0 and then Mantilla doesn't lose another game.
