Two of the nicest guys on tour, no doubt about it. Am gutted that they drew each other, but oh well.
And for those lamenting Flavio's slices: the guy doesn't have a lot of power, so hitting flat shots would not get him very far. Slicing has proven to be pretty effective for him so far, getting him on the verge of the Top 100 and landing him wins over Tursunov and Wawrinka early in this season. He has an unorthodox game, which frustrates some players (and there are also those that can complete overpower and outhit him). As for his serve, no it isn't very fast. He's a short guy who already doesn't have a powerful game to begin with, so naturally his serve isn't very fast.
Instead of painting him off as a talentless mug
, look at what he does have. His tactics are great, his fighting spirit is amazing, his ball placement is good, his footwork is very good, his stamina is good, his attitude is admirable and his volleys are good too. He is making the most of his abilities.
As for Marco, I am just really, really happy that he is stringing these wins together and
is fit again. There aren't many players who have suffered more injury problems than he has.
Would have loved to have been at this match, but would at the same time be completely heartbroken as to who to support. And now Marco meets Jérémy, so I am left in that same position.
