Should Federer skip the entire clay season??

Lets be realistic here. With Nadal around Fed is not wining shit on clay..
I know he has final points to defend in Monaco and Hamburg but still he simply cannot beat Rafa on clay.

Who thinks he should just rest up and get ready for the grass of Wimbledon?

Just an idea. Your thoughts?

Re: Should Federer skip the entire clay season??

He will keep on playing (unless he came to an abrupt decision like Henin). I don't think he will quit playing.

But I think he needs to listen to somebody to re-evaluate his game and his mindset against Nadal. May be it's true that no coach can help him to overcome Nadal's game plan. He needs a shrink/go to Agassi institute of rehab seriously.

Oh..no, Steelers came back and gonna win. Poor Cardinals.

Re: Should Federer skip the entire clay season??

Federer is a great clay court player. 3 or 4 French Open finals is great and he has had great success in those masters series tourneys over there too. The only problem is Nadal is the best clay court player of all time hands down no doubt.

Re: Should Federer skip the entire clay season??

I don´t get it. Federer loves playing tennis, is not everything about Rafa, and it´s not tired at all. His clay season is very short, he is in the French Open, Madrid and Roma if I´m not wrong. The only way he can recover himself from this is playing, having a couch, being positive and trying to fix his errors and lack-of-confindence-against-Nadal-issue. If he has to quit to the clay season with last years results, what about the other players who don´t even pass the R1?

Definitely. He should absolutely skip it.

Then after Wimbledon, he should skip the North American hardcourt season too.

He should just skip Wimbledon as well while he's at it. Let himself drop out of the top ten and then make a living on the challenger circuit instead.

Re: Should Federer skip the entire clay season??

Yes, Federer's chances of beating Nadal on clay are about 0.3% but Roger remains the 2nd best claycourter in the world. That is very clear from Federer's results on clay over the last three years. Providing he plays up to the standard of last year he should make several finals.

As for having to suffer the emotional pain of continually losing to Nadal, well he is either going to have to grow up and get used to that or get off the tour entirely. I think the former would be a far more mature approach actually.

Federer needs to learn to accept himself even when he loses, it won't be easy for him but it is something all professional atheletes have to do.
