What Did He Say Again? AKA Possible Foot In Mouth Awards.

Just starting a thread for memorable quotes that are sure to fire up an opponent leading to "Foot in Mouth" syndrome. Some of course are necessarily better at it (Remember Dijana and "The King is Dead, Long Live the King"? or Srdjan with "You will never lose to him again"?). Feel free to chip in with all quotes that demonstrate how big an arse a player can be !

Anyway, like parents like son so it seems only fair then to start the thread off with one that Nole may well live to regret.

Told Murray was now being talked about as "third challenger" behind Nadal and Federer, Djokovic said: "Why Andy? What's his ranking and my ranking?

"All the respect to Andy, I like him as a person and as a player. He's done a lot in the last couple months, and he's a very talented player and we can expect him to win some grand slams in the future.

"But you cannot put him as the favourites next to Roger and Rafa and myself here at Australian Open."

Well let's see what transpires. I'll take Andy over Nole to make the final and in the (unlikely) event they both make it, Andy sure is going to be gee'd up to hand Nole a refreshing can of Whoop-Ass.

If he was winning then he would probably enjoy the idea.

He has a point, he's won a GS already, Murray has no GS wins. Djokovic is 4-2 h2h and bagelled Murray twice..while murray had to win 3 tbs in the 2 matches he beat Djokovic.

and i cant stand djokovic.

Heh I'm not questionining whether it's a valid point. I'm simply starting a thread for things a player says which can only make their next encounter more spicy.

Federer too said something similar about Murray but then again I am a Federer () fan. I still wish he had not said anything though. Why give your opponent a kick up the ass they don't need to be even more competitive?

MTF is starting to get to you much?

good thread sure it will get bumped up with more future feet in mouths

btw it's strange how Nadal is never brought up in such controversies, he is sure confining his own thoughts to himself (or his close friends circle), doing a good job with that

I was also thinking about how Nadal never gets caught up in this kind of stuff. That may partly be because his English isn't as good as Federer/Murray/Djokovic's, so it's hard for him to say anything but "he is very good player, no?" and "unbelievable match" and such.

But he's also very careful about what he says. I mean, he's even reluctant to call himself the favorite at Roland Garros, when clearly he and everyone else in the world knows he is. Is Nadal's unbelievable (and I mean literally unbelievable) humility really better than more honest but less humble answers from other players? I guess it's really just a matter of opinion.

Re: What Did He Say Again? AKA Possible Foot In Mouth Awards.

I think it's a smart move on Nadal's part. Why try to give a player out there extra motivation? Now obviously at this level everyone in the top already has plenty of motivation, but there is no need to add any extra incentive. Besides even if he states what he believes, it's not like it will really change the perception of what everyone else already thinks and then it just makes him look like a sore loser or a baby as we have seen with others.

well said. I think Rafa is a very modest guy off the court. He's not gona say anything to start a war of words. Its also easier for him to stay out of it since he is number one. I dont think it matters wether he egst invloved or not actually. Fed and Nole have things under control. If he gets involved as well the top 3 is going to seem insecure.

Yeah. Personally I don't mind Nadal's modest nature off court. I find it quite refreshing, seeing as in my opinion there are already enough players who are keen to say exactly what they think.

Nadal says volumes more with his actions and achievements, and I'd put Tsonga in that category as well - both modest off-court, but completely transformed once they get on it

Re: What Did He Say Again? AKA Possible Foot In Mouth Awards.

I also didnt like the comments of Djokovic. He has a point as the top 3 is very consisten in GSs and Murray had only one good result, but it is kinda weird to say that Murray is not up there as the favorite for this AO.

Djoko tends to do this outings, also in AO two years ago when he said he was going to be number 1 in the future. Federer then punished him for that, maybe Murray does that as well...

Re: What Did He Say Again? AKA Possible Foot In Mouth Awards.

Not sure if this should be here but, i am also interested what actually happened here

Safin talking about Roddick

Q: Is there anyone from the top players you havenít managed to build a relationship with?
A: Roddick and I donít talk to each other. We fell out during the Olympic Games in Athens.

Q: What hapenned?
A: I am not going to say anything, itís stupid. But the man has changed and not for the best. Iíve known him, Federer and Hewitt practically since childhood, weíre of the same age, weíve been playing each other forever. I have an excellent relationship with the other two. Federer became more disciplined, serious, a real Swiss. He is a very good person. Once I had to present some one I knew with a racquet and I didnít have one on me. I asked Roger for one and he gave it to me without hesitation. I have wonderful memories about Sampras Ė he treated me really well and I respected him deeply. Just as I respect Agassi.

I think the Australian Open 2006 Program Roddick speaks nicely about Safin etc but reading this i am somewhat confused would this have created some tension for there meetings??

Safin - Agassi - Kafelnikov - Kuerten -Soderling - Davydenko - Santoro -Edberg - Novak - Nalbandian - Ivanisevic
You dealin' with a few true villains
Federer - Wawrinka - Nishikori - Del Potro - Mayer - Rublev - Youzhny - Khachanov - Andrey Kuznetsov- Safiullin - Karatsev

This is gold, its obvious that Roger is the nicest guy out there so nothing new there. I never liked 'dick but lately ive stopped hating on him. I guess this means he was what i always thought. Safin is a straight shooter, 'dick is an asshole

He is lovely I agree when he owns you and knows he can beat you 100 times out of 100. I wonder if he's as nice to people who actually pose a threat to him.

Go Andy!

So very very proud to be a fan of Mr Andy Murray Wimbledon Champion 2013
