Can anyone stop Federer????

It seems no one on tour can stop him now.....he is the player to beat now....but who can??? Henman???? A fit Ferrero??? A better headed Safin??? Any opinions???

Q. As the older player, you don't feel like it's your role to go up to the younger players and talk to them first?

JEFF TARANGO: To say what? "Welcome to the locker room. Don't bend over for the soap."

Re: Can anyone stop Federer????

grass - maybe no-one

hard/indoor - Henman, Nalbandian, Hewitt, but they have to be at their absolute best or hope Fed has a bad day

clay - Ferrero, Coria, other top clay-courters

Fed will still be most vulnerable on clay.

My faves, for you to bash

Roger Federer, Lleyton Hewitt, Marat Safin, Tommy Haas

Re: Can anyone stop Federer????

What I like about the mens' field is that under the right circumstances there are a number of players who are capable of beating Roger. These men don't seem to be intimidated or defeatists when they step on the court against him. I feel that Henman and Hewitt have the best game and mental/physical fitness to do that right now.

Roddick has the desire, but, he needs to be able to sustain controlled agression for too long a period of time to snatch a match away from Federer.

Nalbandian and Ferrero aren't healthy/fit.

Marat has the talent, but, he needs more than mental strength to defeat Federer. He has to maintain a constant off court regimen and learn how to employ an on court strategy for an entire match in order to even challenge Roger. I hope he stays with Peter, listens to Peter, and executes.
GO MARAT!!

I don't know if anyone can defeat Roger if he makes it to the final of a major because he'll try to peak for that, but, there will certainly be challengers at smaller tournaments and in early rounds of majors.

Safin and Roger do not match-up well. I have notices that Safin does not do well against players that can mix it up...and Federer is the king of mix-up.

Henman, has the best chance on any surface.

Re: Can anyone stop Federer????

off court regimen:

Marat is a natural athlete. Now, he has to adopt the work ethic that other elite players have. That includes diet, drills, and everything else geared toward being number one. It's the same type of activities commentators have described Andre, Andy, and Justine doing. Marat talked about running hills in preparation for the AO. But, he can't just gear up for the majors. He's got to prepare week in and week out and gamble that the pay off will come.

Today, Cliff made a comment about Marat "showing up" from time to time implying that sometimes he plays championship ball and other times he's there in body only.

Marat has got to get deadly serious before he runs out of time.

GO MARAT!!!

Re: Can anyone stop Federer????

lots of players. but they have to have an andy type attitude (first set from wimby final) and get him like that. you kind of have to take him out of the match and be very aggressive and go for the shots and be on.
if anyone can do it without roger hitting lots of his own errors as well is the question. roger will have bad days,. and someone will beat him on one, but he isn't beyond losing to someone who is firing from the hip.

Maybe Roger can win Roland Garros.......

Re: Can anyone stop Federer????

A fit Ferrero can bit him in all surfaces but grass (and who knows, who knows...)

Favourite players:

Nadal ~ Fish [Fisho] ~ Ferrero [Juancho] ~ Hewitt [Llautó] ~ Nalbandian

Re: Can anyone stop Federer????

I would think Henman because he has a good H2H. I don't think that Hewitt is going to essentially "stop" Federer. Federer has dominated their last few matches. However, Hewitt is the type of playing that if Fed is off, he can definitely do damage. Right now though, I'd say Henman because he has great placement on his serve and is so comfortable at the net.

Re: Can anyone stop Federer????

I thought Nalbandian could beat him? But I guess that was last year so things might be different.
I think Marat does have what it takes but after watching Keifer's match, I think his coach should really help him with using his power appropriately. A lot of his points loss was because he overshot the ball.

Re: Can anyone stop Federer????

if he thinks that no one wants him to dominate no more and nobody is thrilled to see him winning over and over again... if only his self-esteem would do that to him

Marat: Last question: what do you think of me? Dinara: You are my god! When you play, I love
to see you. When you lose, I am even sadder than when it is me. When you are wounded, I suffer.
When you speak to me, I drink your words. When you come to see me playing, I am with the angels.
