AO R1: [3] Djokovic def. Stoppini 6-2, 6-3, 7-5

Not an awe-inspiring start for the Serb. He was down 0-4 in the 3rd but fought fought back to even it at 5-all.

The switching of the shirts at the handshake was a little....different

34 winners, 27 UEs. -- 7/18 in break points

Stoppini totally let Djokovic off the hook in that third set Only caught parts of the match but what I saw, along with following the scoreline (not to mention the Serb's results going back to last year), did not inspire much confidence in a successful title defence

Similar opening match to last year's one, Djokovic was close to be two breaks down and two points away from dropping the set then:

AO '08: 1R Becker 6-0 6-2 7-6(5)... *0:2 (15-40) in the third, 5:5 in the TB
AO '09: 1R Stoppini 6-2 6-3 7-5... 0:4 in the third, 3:5, 4:5* (30-30)

Stoppini looks like an Australian not an Italian. Poor technically player, it's sad for tennis he defeated Agassi Andre probably played one out of 5 worst matches in career.

The forehand looked a bit iffy at points but its way too early to tell anything. He picked up his level there after going down 0-4. He will have to play better though against Chardy.

I guess Roddick must be the greatest player to ever play the game.

Well done Nole...give credit where its due I say, but this makes Federer's match look good in comparision. He had a much tougher opponent in Seppi and hit 45 or so winners and never got his serve broken.
