AO rd1 - Del Potro def Zverev 6-3 6-4 6-2

42 winners by delpo? WTF? Yeah, he had 23 unforced errors, but yet...quite a nice amount of winners.
Three sets, fairly routine match, good one.

Re: AO rd1 - Del Potro def Zverev 6-3 6-4 6-2

he had so many winners because zverev mas making too many dumb net approaches that were sitting up on the court waiting to be put away. He didn't use his slice at all and kept coming in on a wing and a prayer behind loopy topspin shots.

del had very few winners in baseline exchanges in the parts of the match I saw. I can remember exactly one.

as usual he looked totally fucked out there physically. zverev was worse though and had treatment for cramps midway through the third set.

S&V is not suitable on this surface. Del Potro had all the time in the world to hit passing winners. I could understand why Mischa wanted to get to the net. He wasn't gonna out rally del potro from the baseline but still...poor anticipation, poor shot selections.

Del Potro has become a machine in easily beating the average players like Zverev.

Del Potro played pretty well, he was really hitting the ball.

I still believe in the one-handed backhand.

Re: AO rd1 - Del Potro def Zverev 6-3 6-4 6-2

Maybe this is an ideal match-up for Del Potro but Zverev was never anywhere near snatching a set here. Zverev did what he could but was getting outclassed by DelPo's battleship tennis from the backcourt and burned by those impotent approach shots when rushing the net. A routine win if there ever was one.

Best of luck for:

Despite I am a JMDP fan, I loved the way Zverev played. It was not so effective, JMDP hits the ball to fast, but it was very nice to watch. Zverev has an incredible "good hand", unfortunatelly he is not mentally strong. If he is more focused and avoid loosing the important points, I am sure he will increase his ranking a lot soon.

I enjoyed this game.
