Who has greatest chance of joining the Big 4?

Who has the greatest chance of joining the big 4?

I.e. become a big 5?

this player has to consistently beat other members of the big 4 and also do well in grand slam play

The contenders are in my opinion

1. JO WILFRIED TSONGA - has beaten djoker 3 times, murray once ,nadal once but has not beaten federer in 1 attempt.

2. GILLES SIMON - played brilliant last year, but poorly in grand slams. Lacks the power game(i.e. big serve or forehand) to threaten at slam level, although is improving his weaponry. 6

3. JUAN MARTIN DEL POTRO - notched zero wins over big 4. The big 4 own del potro.

4. ERNESTS GULBIS - has notched 1 solitary win over Djokovic. Took a set from Rafael nadal. Has played reasonably in slams especially french open last year. Is weak mentally and prone to rash/over hit shot making. Is still young.

5. DAVID NALBANDIAN - has beaten all 4 players, but has been woeful and downright dismal at slam level. We know nalby is highly talented ,but mentally he is off at times. Also his serve is a liability. We have seen the best from nalby at slam level.

6. MARIN CILIC - has no wins over big 4, but competed well against Djoko in US OPEN and competed well against Murray in Madrid. Has won 2 atp titles and has a good backhand.

i voted Gublis

Rafa! Rafa! Rafa!

Epic movies, like brokeback mountain, are seldom found in the industry or worthy for the mainstream viewer. As often as I have watched the clips of this movie, I always find something more to it. For one, the gay stuff doesn't enter the picture for me, only the dimension of the highest love I have ever witnessed in life or on film.

It's safe to say the big four is quite far from the rest right now...

However, i think it could soon become Big 3....if the Djoker doesn't do something!

I don't think there's a Big "Four" just yet. Nadal, Federer and Djokovic all have at least one slam. And in the point differential, Murray is closer to Davydenko than he is to Djokovic.

murray has a slam final, the latest one. he is in incredible form, taking the standard of tennis to new heights.

djoker just won masters cup. he has good clay court credentials and a good record at the french. he is still big 4. gulbis is frankly disappointing. he got wiped in last meeting v murray(st petersburg) and is not playing that well. del potro is OWNED by the big 4 its not funny...he has relatively weaker movement, but played fantastic in the us open 2007 and hard court events prior before getting injured.

Re: Who has greatest chance of joining the Big 4?

Well first of all its not the big four yet, although it might become that at some point. For Murray to be part of the big four he has to win a slam. Then im also pretty dissapointed you didnt put Monfils in there. So i didnt vote.

True enough, but one hasn't truly "arrived" until they get that first slam title under their belt. Murray IS the man to beat right now but I think he still has a little ways to go to prove himself.

But for the sake of your thread, I'd say that Gulbis stands the biggest chance of turning a "Big 4" into a "Big 5". Just a guess. Then again, there are plenty of other guys who could just as easily be as successful.

Re: Who has greatest chance of joining the Big 4?

Barring injury I don't see anyone getting close to being ranked 1-4 except for the guys who are there. It could become an interesting 5 if Tsonga can get a full season in, playing the tennis he did at the start and end of last season.

People can talk all they want about if it's a big 3 or 4 but Murray's only going to get better. Quite a bit better actually. I'm still not convinced he'll win a slam this year but should have chances at AO and USO at least.

Re: Who has greatest chance of joining the Big 4?

Simon could, has become very solid.

Murray is imo part of the big 4, it's not a matter of a legacy - to win a major or several majors - but a matter of being consistently near the top and recording wins against the other 3 ( and at the moment he's doing it quite consistently ).
He might as well not win a grand slam this season - only a few finals and semis miight be enough to see him getting closer.

Jankovic is the current number one in the WTA without a grand slam yet - and that is another example.

Many of you might smile at me for this, but I would say Richard Gasquet - provided he gets his act together.

We live in hope.

Out of that list I would say Tsonga, but Monfils has a good game too.

My Top 9: (I couldn't decide on a tenth)

Lleyton Hewitt
Richard Gasquet
Roger Federer
Marat Safin
Nicolas Mahut
Rafael Nadal
Tim Henman
Andy Roddick
Marcos Baghdatis
