Brisbane R1: Nieminen beats Baghdatis 5-7 6-1 6-4

good start for Jarkko

Marcos had a few too many double faults and his forehand was leaking errors.

More importantly, Marcos seemed to have problems with his knee. Hope it's not another injury plagued season for him.

Jarkko didn't start too good, but he soon picked up his game and was really dominating the last 2 sets

Good start for Jarkko, he has a lot of points to defend. Hopefully this will boost his confidence!

Got a bit tight at times but Jarkko got through.

Good that Jarkko won something. Hopefully there will be more wins.

Nieminen looked super fit and sexy, coming on to his forehands nicely.

Baghdatis on the other hand, seemed to be extremely fatigued and was carrying a knee injury of some sort. He was still able to start rallying midway through the third set.

Re: Brisbane R1: Nieminen beats Baghdatis 5-7 6-1 6-4

Didn't seem like much of an injury. he didn't call a time-out anyway. just got a brief rub down off the trainer at the end of the 2nd set. seemed to be the thigh area just above the knee. Looked more like fatigue.
And the major yips on the 2nd serve showed how low his confidence is right now. He lost his serve with a df at least 3 times.

He got footfaulted a heap of times too, which wouldn't have helped. Jarkko did too which is something I've rarely if ever seen in a match before.

Baghdatis, what the hell?

Good match, Jarrko was very motivated, Baghdatis saved double match point in the 9th game in a great style (half-volley and dropshot) but didn't manage again to win a match after saving MP.
