Tennis Australia does it again!

Marinko Matosevic was the winner of the Australian pro tour 'race' for 2008 - basically this means he was the best performed player on the tour throughout the whole year accumulating the most points. Previously, the winner of this used to be granted a wildcard into AO main draw and a $10,000 bonus. Now days, the wildcard has been removed but the player still recieves the $10,000 bonus.

However, Marinko Matosevic was told that this year he would not be given the $10,000 prize for winning the tour, the reason being that he apparently had 'too many code violations' this year

Why am i not suprised?

$10,000 goes a long way for a futures/challenger level player.

Re: Tennis Australia does it again!

Wow. If this was written down in the rules prior to the start of the year then I have no problems with it...rules are rules. However, if it wasn't written down then this is pretty awful by TA. Code violations make the game more interesting anyways. There's nothing like a good racket toss to spice things up a bit. TA seems to be doing a lot lately to alienate their players, unless of course you're Hewitt or Tomic. You don't happen to have an online source for this do you?

Re: Tennis Australia does it again!

No online source - i am quite close with many of the players and know about it first hand.

At the moment im unsure if TA had anything written about it in their rules...

I'll keep you updated

Re: Tennis Australia does it again!

If he took it to the court he would win the case. I mean, as long as the clear rules were set at the beginning of the previous season.

Poor by Tennis Australia, what a bunch of sad people.

Poor guy. Probably will not be given a MD WC either, even when his 2008 record and his results in the play-offs should grant him one.

Re: Tennis Australia does it again!

Pathetic by TA
However nothing they do surprises me anymore.

I still think the winner of the Pro Circuit deserves a MD WC, it rewards performance over the year and is more objective than the officials picking their favourites.

Re: Tennis Australia does it again!

Matosevic says that his hero is Marat Safin as he brings a lot of character to the court and spices things up. MM is a lot like Safin on court as he does show his character, he thinks it is good for the sport and it is very entertaining and funny to watch. He should not be penalised for wanting to bring more interest to the matches.

Poor Marinko, Tennis Australia really is a joke. I've heard some disgusting stories.
