2008 MTF Bandwagon Player of the Year is Gilles Simon

Code:
January Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
February	Kei Nishikori
March The decline of Roger Federer
April The return of Rafael Nadal
May Captain Robby Ginepri and the resurgance of American clay tennis
June Ernests Gulbis
July Rafael Nadal aka now the Goat
August Juan Martin del Potro
September	Juan Martin del Potro
October/Nov Gilles Simon
These are the monthly award winners for 2008, but as for who will be the bandwagon player of the year.

There are some good candidates.

- del Potro, he was written off as a wasted talent, but the only player to win the award for consecutive months.

- Simon who apart from Truc, Scotso and his family had about 10 fans on this board, now he is loved.

- Federer written off as rubbish and then the collective cocksucking after he won the US Open.

- The usual Nadal grandstanding once he got on the clay and then later thinking he is the greatest of all time.

- Andy Murray while not winning the bandwagon title had solid support during the year.

- Tsonga had huge momentum after the AO and also after Bercy, but when injured forgotten about.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: 2008 MTF Bandwagon Player of the Year ?

Gulbis is (almost) winning the favourite of MTF contest -> this bandwagon seems to be stick, it will be a while before everybody jumps off again.

Simon is gathering big too, but he had big results to defend them, wtf has Gulbis? But I do think alot will jump off the minute Gilles gets just a little bit out of the picture.

The Naderer bandwagons have been around for years and will only continue. It's just an annual subject to chat about. The Murray one is just new -tard and -hater groups greasing up for the big fights as soon as he gathers a slam. Not interesting.

so yeah, vote for Simon. I'm on the bandwagon and will try to stay on it - not a solid promise though

Re: 2008 MTF Bandwagon Player of the Year ?

I was torn between Murray and Del Potro for this one.

Murray has gained a lot of support and expectation, but then again he is number 4 in the world and has reached a slam final. I think seeing him as a slam contender isn't over-rating him and I don't know many people who honestly see him as a better player than Nadal, Federer or Djokovic. In hindsight, he's not great bandwagon material and this is reflected in the fact that he hasn't won a monthly award.

Del Potro on the otherhand is seen as a major contender for slams with no big win to back up this claim. Again, he was expected to stand up to the pressure and help Argentina win the Davis Cup when he's still a kid and was always likely to crumble. I've even heard fans talking of him schooling Nadal on clay if they met. It's ridiculous talk.

Del Potro gets my vote simply for being massively over-rated at this moment in time.

Simon.

Frenchmen... They come and they go, moving around in the top 100, sometimes they have stints in the top ten, sometimes they do well in a grand slam or a TMS. But Simon, like the rest of the French squad, will remain an also ran, that seems obvious enough.

I can´t decide yet, recently it´s between Murray and Simon I think, and in the beggining of the year, Federer declining vs. Nadal "the goat".

yeah, Im under the impression its the story of Feds demise. Im mean its only natural, guy is so full of himself everybody were jumping with joy... lol.

Oddly, Murray bandwagon didn't really skyrocket, despite convincing results in the second part of the season.

reliability...

Re: 2008 MTF Bandwagon Player of the Year ?

This is easy - Gulbis.

I don't hate him, but the way he gets talked about around here you would think he won a bunch of Masters titles this year. The kid has 0 titles -- in fact he only has 1 career ATP Semifinal (St. Petersburg 2006).

Should be Gulbis, as he is jumping ahead of Safin () at the favourite player contest.

Re: 2008 MTF Bandwagon Player of the Year ?

I voted for JMdP because his little bandwagon has seen a lot of hopping action- on and off, on and off.

At the start of the year he was largely thought of as an overrated scrub.

Then he had some good tournaments- and he could be a darkhorse for the USO.

Then he lost to Murray and he reached scrub status again.

Then he won two rubbers in the DC semis- and he was great again.

Then he did not do so well at some tournaments- and of course the DC fiasco. So now he is an overrated scrub again who will never amount to anything.

I like a lot of players.
