Should mixed doubles tennis be eliminated?

Doubles as a whole is a sideshow to the real singles tennis. Almost no one watches it.

Mixed doubles is an even bigger side show. The male players just pick on the weaker female players and there is no real strategy involved ("just hit to the girl")

This is a pointless sport as men and women should not compete against each other in sports.

The ATP deserves a better class of player, and I'm gonna give it to 'em - Djoker

u have a good point here.

those are my thoughts as well.

i mean it's ok for recreational purposes, but shouldn't exist on a pro level.

at a club level or just for fun, it can be k.

but at a pro level men vs women is a joke

Re: Should mixed doubles tennis be eliminated?

I do like same-sex doubles, but mixed doubles? those are only played at the Hopman Cup and the GS tournaments, so they are pretty pointless: no ranking, no points, money prizes are sad and no one cares for it
I haven't seen an interesting mixed doubles match since Navratilova retired and nowadays is a joke, only people like the Black siblings and Jamie Murray care for it

Roger “The Magician of Precision” Federer
Del Potro, Ferrer, Haas, Zeballos

Re: Should mixed doubles tennis be eliminated?

I think the pro tour should just stop at the top 10. No need to have those jokes compete against the real talent. It's just pointless.

It only serves as much to have some players find their soul mate on the same side of the net.

Only a handful of (Non-ATP) tournaments have it, and it's not costing them any money, so what exactly would be the point of eliminating it? Simply because you don't like it?

That's not a strategy?

Why?

Compared to the top singles players, yes, the prize money might be small. But compared to the average world worker? It pays, people like it. If they didn't "care for it," they wouldn't play it, and this thread wouldn't exist.

Re: Should mixed doubles tennis be eliminated?

no, its fun and people going to those tournaments can go watch these matches and have fun as well. also these matches often are played with less tension and some great stuff can happen during these matches. for example zvonareva's and ram's wimbledon 06 run. their play was just magic at times. i often was like omg.

also it gives doubles players/specialists an other opportunity to earn some money and get a big title the latter meaning a lot to them. it doesnt have to mean anything to you though. it doesnt really take away from the main channels airtime, so its nothing but a bonus really.

oh and btw.

Re: Should mixed doubles tennis be eliminated?

It's barely anywhere, so obviously there is no need to have it removed. Mixed doubles can be more fun than normal doubles because it has the added dimension of the male players trying to impose themselves, and both players trying to target the female player at all times.

XD doubles is more exciting then MDs dont know if thats a compliment or not. Seeing as MDs is painfully boring.

XD is harmless and i actually enjoy it at Wimbledon every year.

Re: Should mixed doubles tennis be eliminated?

One thing I've wondered about concerning mixed doubles (I rarely get to watch it).

Is there some unwritten rule about a man serving against a woman? I suppose it's good manners for the male player not to serve all out when the woman has to return. I can imagine though that good manners only last as long as the match is not too tight.

Anybody has any insight into the etiquette of mixed doubles?

17 (yes, yes, yes!) Slams! And counting....
