Somdev Dev Varman (IND) trashes Pippo ''the Aceman'' Volandri 6/3,4/6,6/3

The Indian fellow Dev Varman has barely any experience on clay, a record of 2-1, this was his fourth official match on this surface, and he gets an easy win in the final round of the qualifying in Bucharest against the italian lover Volandri...

Pippo can not go any lower then this

Congratulations, Somdev. You're doing us proud!

I have never seen him play, but from the quality of the players he's been beating, I guess he should close in on the top 100 someday soon.

Filippo withdrew last week with pharyngitis, I hope he's feeling ok now.

Somdev isn't afraid of the clay.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

That is nice to see, and I wish some other american based hard court up and coming challenger players would give it a try, as for Pippo, as a claycourt specialist, there is no way he can get trashed by this indian fellow, even if he played with one leg and with one arm......

Well big Sam Querrey has had a go playing nearly the whole season last year and did well in Monte Carlo.

Somdev has that great commodity confidence, if it was sold it would be worth more than gold and truffles combined per kg. At the same time many of the players haven't figured him out yet, so that helps him.

I think India and Romania are playing in DC, so this would be a reason that he is playing in Bucharest.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

OMG Filippo, this is dreadful.

Happy for the lucky loser spot though.

Great win. This shows that NCAA Tennis is pretty good. Devvarman won the NCAA title 2 years in a row as a member of the Virginia Cavaliers. First Isner now Devvarman.
