5th set tie break or play it out....?

If the final tomorrow goes the distance, what scenario would you rather have ala Wimbledon playing it out game by game or as they do it in the US Open going the tie-break?

It's best for GS finals to not have Karlovic-finishes IMO.

That is a hypothetical question. In every GS despite NYC the 5th set is played out, here it isn't. So it is a tb decision, if we like it or not.

Us open 5th set tie break is bullshit,
typical moron american thing, being different.
You play 5 sets and its all decided by a mini break, unfair.

Re: 5th set tie break or play it out....?

The fifth set should be played out. With everything at stake, relying on a tiebreaker comes close to flipping a coin to settle the outcome. The fundamental principle of tennis scoring is that to win a set, you have to break your opponent's serve while holding your own. Tiebreaks in earlier sets can be lived with as it takes more than one set to win a match, but in the deciding set pure tennis scoring ought to prevail.

All for 5th set TB. Tennis equivalent of a penalty shootout.

Re: 5th set tie break or play it out....?

I think for a final a 'play it out type' of system is good more fair perhaps. For earlier rounds its a terrible idea. a 5th set breaker would prevent those mamouth marathons in the 1st round.

Tiebreak is fine though its like penalties in football its adds a mass of drama pressure and tension.

Either is good for me.

Go Andy!

So very very proud to be a fan of Mr Andy Murray Wimbledon Champion 2013

Double Grand slam champion. Olympic Gold Medalist. Holder of 9 Masters 1000 events # legend
