Beijing olympics/US Open clash - I dont get it

Ive tried to block out the olympics as much as I could thinking it would all come naturally but I just happened to see that the US Open starts on the 8th and so do the Olympics according to the ATP calendar.
Knowing that Nadal is going to Beijing August the 5th, is the tennis only a couple of days or what?

Olympics tennis event goes from 10-17 August.

US Open Main Draw starts on 25th August

but I agree that the Calendar this year is a joke for so many reasons.

I looked at the ATP calendar and realized that I must get used to the month/day/year format

But THIS is the olympic schedule I looked at which is VERY confusing! it doesnt make sense that they the olympics come between Ciny and US open though.

Why not? The only problem is the distance between N America and China. Otherwise there shouldn't be a problem since in China they are using the same surface, Deco Turf II, and the same balls like on the US Open and Cincy.

When I'm good, I'm very good...but when I'm bad, I'm better
