Why people like 05's Blake and hate today's?

I saw people love 2005 Blake much more than today's. abviously, almost no one like him today

Sounds like people are looking for surprise and creative

05 Blake looks like a Brand New guy and you got surprise on him every time

but today, he is kind of older guy and absolute nothing NEW

GO Roger Federer, Nick Kyrgios, Borna Coric, Vasek Pospisil, Thomaz Bellucci, Kei Nishikori, , Milos Raonic, Jerzy Janowicz, Grigor Dimitrov, Dennis Novikov and Bernard Tomic

Borna Coric will be No 1 by May 2016
Nick Kyrgios will be No 1 by Jan 2016

Re: Why people like 05's Blake and hate today's?

I think that a lot of people over here (including me), didn't take Blake's stance on the :retard: Round Robin-experiment back in 2007 (or was it 2006? time flies...) very well...

Also, he has this irritating tendency to apply stupid tactics when playing his matches (mindless ball bashing).

I don't 'hate' him though. I don't 'hate' any player as I don't know them personally.

Re: Why people like 05's Blake and hate today's?

People on this site don't like anyone (ballbasher, moonballer, pusher, choker, etc.).

The only player that is well liked around here is the new "flavor of the month". Blake was the the "flavor of the month" sometime in 2005 (especially after the loss to agassi in the US Open quarters).

Blake's impeccable image and the way he handled the RR fiasco in Las Vegas, when he was on the board that agreed to the rules before it started, therefore putting his own interests first.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: Why people like 05's Blake and hate today's?

I think it has to do more with sympathy.

He came back from his several accidents that happened a year or two back.

Also, he beat Nadal at the US Open, quite easily. No one had the winning forumla vs Nadal in 2005, he game the other players a "how to" match.

Now he's just a player who, despite me liking his gameplay, continually underachieves.

Re: Why people like 05's Blake and hate today's?

He was a comeback story. People like that, then once your back on the tour, no one cares anymore.

Ie: When Canas came back and beat Federer back to back everyone thought it was amazing. Then he started losing, then only the die hards still liked him.

Or when Isner showed up. MTF was CRAZY, thinking this guy could be beat Federer and how much damage he would do, yada yada being an improved Ivo and whatnot. 12 months later, hasn't done much to be honest.

That run he had in the summer of 05 was his best shot of making a GS final. I thought he would have made the final at least after the way he was playing, it was lights out. Then the typical chokejob kicked in and that is the end of that.

I cannot stand Djokovic

Re: Why people like 05's Blake and hate today's?

It's simple dood

MTF is fickle. MTF is like the press, praises for a player one moment and tearing them down the next. In 05' he was a great story, how could you not root for the guy?

...

James's numerous chokes and lack of results in the big matches annoy many fans(myself included). You know that if he does get a few big wins he won't finish the job. However, I would say James is much less hated than many other players...he simply doesn't win enough to polarize fans(like Nadal, Fed, Djoko). Most tennis fans including myself when it comes to Blake are like "meh".

I cheer for him against any player but Federer and Wawrinka.

Not quite yet --

Sore loser: rarely if ever acknowledges applause of crowd when leaving court after loss. Sometimes won't even look opponent in face during handshake (most recent ex.: Tursunov in Indy).

Smug winner: Davis Cup home ties last year. I think it inspired someone to start a thread of disgust here. Uses J. Block like its Davis Cup at the USO, when USO is a slam.

J-Block: They're horrible.

Ultimate Fedmug: didn't he win the honor?

Phoniness factor: especially re: "nice guy" image because of the above. Roddick is a tool on court (if only in the time-honored Connors tradition), but at least he's honest off court.

And yes, definitely the RR fiasco.

Otherwise, he's great! I'll admit my view of James is tainted by the fact that he used to whup Rafa. But when James beat him at the USO, it was a thrill because James was coming into his own and he'd faced so many terrible crises. He was sporting in victory and in defeat. Not so often the case since.

But maybe he'll come around. He's doing a better job of rebounding during matches instead of pouting when he's behind.

Re: Why people like 05's Blake and hate today's?

I've always thought of James Blake as an excellent player with an interesting and different game and incredible sportmanship. I would recommend you to read his book. It makes you get to know him a lot better and you get to know what is going on in is mind. It's also a very inspiring book, pro-golfer Suzann Pettersen even thought that.

Roger Federer. Legend.

Pretty much a perfect explanation.
