Murray did the right thing. Just take the pace off and let Sam make errors. Did what he needed to do. Served well, though. Hit more aces than Sam.

Murray in moonballing mode still winning easily

Sam started well but then faded away as the match went on.

I love all aspects of TENNIS.

Seemed like a conscious tactic. Just saw him interviewed. Said Sam is more of an inconsistent player, so he didn't have to take the ball on as much. Also said he felt uncomfortable on the court. Said he didn't feel like he could go after his shots like he did in Toronto, because the courts are so much faster in Cinci.

I know it was tactical, i wasnt worried.

Murray isnt as good to watch playing like that, but hes still really intelligent. Sam was the opposite, he was hitting the ball exactly where muzza wanted it all the time.

Murray won anyway, nothing else matters really.

Re: Cincy R2: Murray defeats Querrey 7-6 6-1

Yeah - a smart match from Sam tactically until the end of the first set - he was taking the ball on, trying to hit through Murray with some success and generally doing the right things and being rewarded for it.

Then he had a lousy tiebreak and collapsed completely, just patting the ball around in ways that would leave Gilles Simon agog with admiration, making some basic errors, and Murray mopped him up easily.

Andy got so bored with the procession he decided to serve 3 double faults in one game and dump serve, just for the thrill of it.

Disappointing mentally from Sam more than anything - his level of mental competitiveness just went right away.

Re: Cincy R2: Murray defeats Querrey 7-6 6-1

I think it is easy to underestimate how different Cincy plays to Toronto or Montreal - the court speed is faster, the heat is much greater so the balls do fly around a lot more and it can be a very tough adjustment to make in a couple of days so the first match is always likely to be a bit tricky.

Querrey played a lot worse after the first set. Poor start from Murray in the first few games but looks like he settled well into it after that.
