Nottingham QF: Monfils d. Vinny Spadea 7-6(4), 6-2.

Second straight semi-final for Gael.
Monfils has beaten Dr. Ivo both times they have played, including Monte Carlo earlier this year where Ivo failed to hit an ace.
Different story on grass, but it should be a good match.

Tim Henman--Gael Monfils--James Blake--Donald Young--Rafael Nadal--Jo-Wilfried Tsonga--John Isner--Janko Tipsarevic--Richard Gasquet.

i cant wait for this match. i am trying to determine if Monfils is good enough to win 2-3 matches at Wimby. i was realtively impressed with Monfils on the red clay of Roland Garros.

Good effort Vinnay in getting to the tiebreak! Better luck at Wimbledon. (He is playing there right?)

Anyway, Monfils/Karlovic should be interesting. Ivo seemed hurt today so I wouldn't be surprised if he pulls out or loses.

He won 2 (Johansson, Vliegen in straight sets)) last year so I think he can do it again especially being seeded now. He probably could've beaten Davydenko last year too.

Of course he's good enough to win 2-3 matches at Wimby! He doesn't like grass, but he won the juniors title of Wimbledon, had some decent wins at the Queen's already, is in the semi of Nottingham now...
When his serve is on and he keeps his focus (like he does lately), he can beat a good part of the guys in the draw.

I wish he would come more to the net on grass, he isn't that bad at it anymore, he can do it when he's in the mood for it (I've seen him play S&V non-stop during two sets in the Marrakech Challenger and he's not so easy to lob and to pass).

He keeps sliding on grass when he plays from the baseline, coming to the net would spare him some bad falls, he scared me again a few times today with his sliding around.

He should study a few of Venus Williams matches. Those two have the same type of awkward body, and eerily same type of skills. At first she was awkward on the stuff, then she got her bearings and dominated. While I don't see him dominating, with a good draw, the quarters or even semis should not be dismissed

OK GAEL, THIS IS CALLED TRANSFERENCE
BASELINE.MARGOT.MARGOT.BASELINE. TREAT THEM BOTH AS EQUAL

FUTURE BEASTS: DEL POLTRO,GULBIS, CILIC, DONALD YOUNG

i love the sliding... he just needs to add a few more antics to his repetoire, like, humping a net post for example... and this guy will put bums on seats the world over...

he is an excitement machine... and gets the chicks... what a hero...
