Rafa Slam?

First of all, I'm aware that creating a thread like this right after Nadal won a 4th French Open by crushing Federer in the final will make this look simply like a "bandwagon" thread yet with the way Nadal played the French Open and demolished Federer in the final isn't it a realistic possibility (if he maintains the intensity he showed during the French)?

I believe Nadal is the favourite going into Wimbledon considering his current form, how he almost won last year and that he basically owns Federer mentally. Should Nadal win Wimbledon wouldn't we have to look at the possibility of a "Rafa Slam" as being somewhat realistic?

Between the U.S. Open and Australian Open, the U.S. Open is clearly going to be the toughest for Nadal to win because its towards the end of the year and played on a pretty fast hardcourt surface yet with his current form and if he maintains his intensity and structures a wise schedule between Wimbledon and the U.S. Open (and should he also win Wimbledon he will have boundless confidence) I think he would have a strong chance.

Then, if he has three under his belt, it would be far more likely he would clinch the "Rafa Slam" by winning the 2009 Australian Open than when Federer had a chance to win the "Roger Slam" in 2006 and 2007 if he had won the French Open.

So, do you think it is realistic he could attain the "Rafa Slam" by winning the next three Grand Slams if he maintains his current form, confidence and intensity or even if he wins Wimbledon will winning the U.S. Open be beyond him?

Thanks.

Re: Rafa Slam?

Rafa will win 20 Slams.

17 RGs and 1 each of the others.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: Rafa Slam?

I believe Rafa will end his career with 6 RGs and 1 Wimbledon. I honestly don't care if he ever wins a Hardcourt slam, as long as he gets a Wimbledon title.

14.

Re: Rafa Slam?

Possible, just not very likely.

If he wins Wimbledon, I think this can be discussed.

Nadal career prediction: 6 RG, 2 Wimbledon, 1 Australian Open, 1 US Open, 2 Master Cup, 20 Master Series, 65 titles.
(Predicted before RG 2008 when he had 3xRG)

going one further at Wimbledon first and foremost...

Re: Rafa Slam?

Ok, I'll give this an honest response.

Absolutely no chance at winning a calender slam, far too many players can beat him on hardcourts. The problem is for him, even if his hardcourt form improves over the next few years, there will youngsters coming through with their fresh, hardcourt-honed games who will also be able to take it to him so I can't see him ever winning the U.S. or Australian Open.

There's a chance he could win Wimbledon though. As we've seen with a favourable draw he's always likely to go deep there, but there are still a large handful of players who can school him on grass so it will be quite an achievement if he manages it.
