Re: Horst Skoff died

Yes, it's true. I just checked the Austrian news sites.

He really let himself go once he retired and was very large, so he was a candidate for a heart attack.

Sad to see him to go at such a young age, he was a very controversial in the day and did provide many laughs.

His highlights marrying a former Miss World, beating Mats Wilander in a 6 hour Davis Cup match and also last Austrian to win the Vienna Indoor over rival Thomas Muster.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Who was he and what did he win ? 39 is not that young, but I'm sure it's still sad for his family RIP.

Here is the short version. Skoff was more known for his loathing of Muster and vice versa. Austria never had any good tennis players, then Muster and Skoff came through at the same time.

They played Davis Cup together and got Austria's best ever result in 1990 and hardly spoke to each other. Skoff had the natural talent that Muster didn't, whereas Muster had the work ethic that Skoff didn't.

Best result besides his 4 IS titles were a finalist in Monte Carlo losing to Lendl. He liked the party life and loved his food, because he had a stocky physique, once he stopped training, he got really fat and this helped the heart attack for sure.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Good heavens, I can't win can I ? If you've been good chances are you'll be missed, not that it will mean anything to you though

Re: Horst Skoff died

39 is still very young age.
Connors still played tennis professionaly when he had 40!!!

I don't remember his style of play at all, I just know that he was playing in the beggining of the 90's
