Who Is Faster? Monfils or Nadal?

Monfils really impressed me with his movement today. Do you agree with Lleyton Hewitt when he says Monfils is the fastest player hes ever played?

Re: Who Is Faster? Monfils or Nadal?

Hewitt said Monfils.

Nadal moves better on a tennis court, however.

He's not the fastest, he just stands well back, has the long limbs, and slides a lot and controls the balls well on defensive shots.

Once Ferrer did genuinely get the ball out wide and Monfils had to make up a lot of ground, Monfils was nowhere in sight usually.

Re: Who Is Faster? Monfils or Nadal?

he is very fast and plays pretty far from the baseline plus he has pretty long arms so those two things make his reach pretty long but i think Ferrer and Coria are faster.

Re: Who Is Faster? Monfils or Nadal?

Definitely not. You cannot judge from that. When Ferrer played the ball out wide with some angle, Monfils was no where to be seen. Not only does Monfils not come close to sliding as well as Nadal on both sides, but he no confidence, no game, nothing like Nadal that uses his pace to take control.
Coria was also very fast.

Blake is really fast, and Grosjean in his day used to be the fastest offensive mover I thought.

the best movers in the game are Fed, Djokovic, and Nadal. the fastest (one with the most speed) might be Blake.

that said, Monfils is a great athlete. i would say that Nadal may be a little faster than Monfils.

Re: Who Is Faster? Monfils or Nadal?

Hewitt said that Monfils runs down more balls than Nadal does on clay. His length puts him ahead of Nadal in my opinion.

Tim Henman--Gael Monfils--James Blake--Donald Young--Rafael Nadal--Jo-Wilfried Tsonga--John Isner--Janko Tipsarevic--Richard Gasquet.

Monfils easily, however Nadal anticipates much better.

Re: Who Is Faster? Monfils or Nadal?

Again though, seriously...who cares. It's liking asking which player bench presses the most. Great movement on court has to do with technical footwork, Monfils isn't even close to the top dogs in that respect.

Nadal is average concerning speed.
He knows how to omit this

True.

Not just getting there, anyway, it's what you do when you arrive, and in my view, nobody touches Nadal in getting something effective back from deep defense.

that is because he is a monster. Clay Monster, that is. just incredible pace from deep defensive positions considering he is 40,000 meters behind the baseline sometimes.

Re: Who Is Faster? Monfils or Nadal?

Gael, Nadal uses his speed more wisely though because when he gets to the ball he will do more with it.

Monfils - Blake - Tsonga - Djokovic - Murray - Nadal - Hewitt - Gasgay - Gulbis - Federer - Tursunov
