Does anybody remember Fed reaching RG QF's in 2001 ?

It was his first GS QF, i think..and then it was Wimby's round 4 against Pete...old times...

Here are the scores:

Roland Garros, France
Grand Slam, 28-May-01, O, Clay , Draw: 128

R128 Galvani, Stefano (ITA) 6-3 6-3 6-3
R64 Sargsian, Sargis (ARM) 4-6 3-6 6-2 6-4 9-7
R32 Sanchez, David (ESP) 6-4 6-3 1-6 6-3
R16 Arthurs, Wayne (AUS) 3-6 6-3 6-4 6-2
Q Corretja, Alex (ESP) 5-7 4-6 5-7

I'd really love to see the match against Sargsian...anybody knows a source ?

He was 0-2 in sets against Sargisian and won this one, maybe with saving matchpoints. Talking about mental weakness of Federer...

You play only as good, as your opponent lets you to

very easy draw, easier than Gulbis draw. and lost a set against Arthurs but against Corretja his performance was ok.

That was the tournament where Arthurs beat Rafter from two sets down in the first round, he wasn't that bad on clay as the surface gave his wristy groundstrokes a little more time.

The Wit and Wisdom of the Tennis Journalist, Indian Wells 2004

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

absolutely! my fave Spaniard Corretja beat the young, goofy Rogi in the QF... I was happy for Alex but definitely took notice of Rogi

sjengst!

Hopp Rogi! Go Gonzo! Allez Gasquet!
