What's happening to Ferrero? What should he do to come back?

Since the 2003 Tennis Masters Cup Juan Carlos Ferrero's been unknown. He's had so many injuries and fatigue but after Roland Garros he was supposed to be healthy again. Before going to Wimbledon, he said he was fine. But he just won two matches there. Then, this week, on clay, he lost to Stefan Koubek, ranked in the 90's. He says he's lacking of confidence. SO, I have to big questions:

1. What's happening to him?

2. What should he do to come back?

And also, will he come back to the highest level this year?

I just wish he had a great run in the US hard court season and that he could qualify for the TMC, but I don't see it happening. I think he'll finish this year behind No. 20 in the rankings. I just hope 2005 will be, at least, as good as 2003... what do you think?

I don't doubt his ability, but more of his physical abilities and confidence. He said in his interview that physically he is feeling fine, he is just not confident enough. I think he just needs to get more match play and get the fire.

Seems like this year pretty much is over for him. Hopefully he can start off strong against next year.

It is not easy to come back, if he finishes around #20 in the rankings he will be getting some tough draws next year even if he is back in form.

Same as Hewitt (even they both had that miserable chikenpox (or however it is written))...

Every player go through this phase in their careers. On a positive note, we can think that this has come early for him and hope it won't happen in the following years.

i don't think he'll be back to normal this year. As he said he has lost a lot of confidence, so i think thats part of the reason, and all he needs to do to come back is rest, and hopefully win more matches to restore his self confidence

I think he will be out of the top 10 soon and will struggle all year. I'm sure he will back in the top 5 next year, however.

Re: What's happening to Ferrero? What should he do to come back?

A drop in the ranking might do him more good than harm cos expectations are not high and perhaps he could perform better...

I think playing more matches be it win or lose would help him... just get the feel and experience and perhaps the feeling/desire to feel pumped up enough to win/make a comeback even when he's about to lose(if he's trailing in a match).

He's not one of my favourite, but i don't dislike him either as he's one of the better players and i like his style of play, so I hope he recovers from a possible slide and regroup and move up instead...

Don't be deceived by the rankings!! Coria, Roddick, Mirnyi, Schuettler, Fish, Safin, Henman, Tursunov, Ljubicic, Bovina, Li Na, Ivanovic, Chan YJ, Dementieva, Vinci, Sugiyama, Coetzer, Tanasugarn, Vaidisova, Zheng, Dokic and Kournikova are the world's best tennis players in the world!!!

Re: What's happening to Ferrero? What should he do to come back?

i agree with you buddy. One thing i really like about him is he sets goals for himself and achieves them. He wanted to win the FO, and he did. He wanted to be number 1 in the world and he achieved that too. If he does lose his ranking, his goal would be to come back to being one of the top players again, and he will achieve his goal.

Re: What's happening to Ferrero? What should he do to come back?

I think he needs to keep playing to try to get his confidence. He seems to have the right idea trying to focus on the hardcourt season where he did well last year and hopefully he can find that confidence. Look at Schuettler - one good tournament and he's pretty much back. I am confident Juan Carlos can find this too

Re: What's happening to Ferrero? What should he do to come back?

It would be great if he could perform well in Athens, like Bruguera did in 1996 with a silver medal, the only good thing he did in that year.
