Question Where to watch Wimbledon TV in Amsterdam?

Hi

First post!
Didn't find anywhere else to post this message, so I dive into General Messages head first. Be kind!

I will be visiting some friends in Amsterdam the weekend of the Wimbledon-finals, and they don't have cable, so my question is:

Does anyone know of a pub/cafe/club/etc. in central Amsterdam, that shows Wimbledon matches live on big-screen TVs (especially the finals)?

Thanks in advance for answers!

Regards
Magnus

PS: Did anyone else hear Miss Sharapova say something like "I'm gonna kick your f***ing ass" during the Safina-match? I didn't hera exactly what she said, but I think she knows the F-word!

hey man...

amsterdam is pretty good for this sort of thing... there are plenty of pubs in the red light district which have sky sports and stuff...

but... tennis is pretty popular in NL so you wont have too many dramas in getting a publican to switch the channel over for you if you ask nicely...

there is a Sports Bar i would recommend uptown in Leidseplein which a few trams can take you to from centrale station... its built for what you are looking for... this sports bar is distinct due to it advertising '24hour sports bar' and 'sky sports' out the front...

good luck but i have no doubt you'll enjoy...

Re: Where to watch Wimbledon TV in Amsterdam?

I don't think tennis is that popular, as you say you will have to convince them to switch the channel, if there's football on another channel you're screwed.

yeah... maybe not as popular as darts... but still top 3

yeah sorry borgbeer... if euro 08 is on during matches then it could be bar brawl o'clock if you switch the channel... and listen, the dutch are half decent in a brawl so best option is to punch them in the adams apple if they look at you twice... aggressive nation...

Hi there BorgBeer!

Like fast_clay already said, I guess that bar at the Leidseplein that advertises itself as THE Sports Café of Amsterdam (next left to The Bulldog, probably well-known to some of you ) might show some of it.

You have to hope for the Dutchies to boink out of Euro 2008 (pretty good chance that is indeed going to happen ), and for Andy Murray to do well at Wimbly, though.

Wish you a great time in Amsterdam, and don't forget to visit Paradiso and The Milky Way, if you are into music.

Re: Where to watch Wimbledon TV in Amsterdam?

By the time the final of Wimbledon is played the EURO 2008 tournament will be over!

So your chances of catching that final in Amsterdam look pretty good in my opinion. There are several pubs were they show a lot of sports (especially some Brittish and Irish pubs)

Enjoy your stay in Holland!

Oops, yeah, indeed.

Don't worry, though, they'll probably be showing the Drugs On Parade Le Tour de France in that case.

I have nothing to add, except that Norway is the greatest place in the world. I miss it.

Only Center Court, and if you're lucky PERHAPS some other court, if there's a Big Name/Dutchie/Andy Murray playing there...

Sky Sports Bar on the Leidseplein has multiple TVs with many different sporting events going on at the same time so there is no problem asking them to turn one of the TVs to tennis.

If you have a TV at the place you are staying it won't be a problem because there is BBC1 and BBC2 on the normal dutch television. Plus the local dutch station RTL has extensive coverage - you will be fine.

Thanks for the replies, everybody!

Seems like things are going to work out fine. I'll check out that sports-bar at Leidseplein.

oh yeah... if murray does alright, it'd be worth heading to The Globe i reckon, could be a bit of the good craic on there if he gets up to the 3rd or 4th round... its a Scottish Sports Bar at the Central Station end of the red light district... the staff are spot on... big screens in two large areas... darts... pool... table football... ahh.. what a flashback...
