Question fashion statement or just BAD taste

Hey all,

I hate to bring this up in what seems to be a "male tennis player appreciation section" but - is anyone watching the US open?

Have you SEEN what SERENA is wearing?

what on earth does she look like - she is supposed to be playing tennis not touting for business on some street corner ....... and did you see the SIZE of her butt?

I cannot believe they are gonna let her play in this outfit - it surely does nothing for womens tennis - does it?

I am sure there are plenty of people out there who will have an opinion on this so c'mon ....... lets hear it >>>>>

Thanks for your response

Its all good ..... all of the time !!!

Personally...I love that hot little number!!! At first, i thought it was pretty daring. But then I began digging it...and as Serena said, she looks mighty sexy in it. I wonder if Venus would wear something similar?????

King Nole and Prince Tsonga

Supporting Cast: Stan Warwrinka, Gael Monfils, Kei Nishikori, Juan-Martin Del Potro, Milos Raonic, Tomas Berdych, Nico Almagro...

Who are the 'they' who will let her play in the outfit?. As long as Serena(or any other player) doesn't break the laws on decency I don't see how or why anyone should stop a player wearing what they like. Also what does the size of her butt matter?.

As for it doing nothing for womens tennis- look how much interest has been generated by the outfit - good for Serena's sponsors, good for Serena when she negotiates a new sponsorship deal in the future, good for the tournament in added media coverage(pics not only on the back pages of newspapers). Thus Serena has done herself and the tournament a favour.

Serena is the top women's player of the moment and as a tennis fan to be honest I couldn't care if she played naked - if her tennis is good that is all I care about (even more so after Anna K. performance yesterday).

ps. I am not a Williams fan just giving my humble opinion

Serena is my favorite WTA player...but that said, she needs a little adjustment to her outfit. Her butt is a tad on the larger side...not Jennifer Lopez large (which is just about right) but larger. She needs more length on the front side of the shorts, it tends to creep up...and more support on the backside!

Lurker of all the posts about Serena and her little black number yours has certainly made me laugh . For the support on the backside are you suggesting underwiring....similar to that used in bras?

okay - the outfit was DEFINITELY not my taste -- but if Serena has the guts to wear it ... well - go Serena!!

personally, i didn't see the 'street walker' connection. she looked a bit more like a wet-suited frog(wo)man who washed up on the beach

By far prefer Venus' outfit. With that butt, Serena should be hiding it not flaunting it, but have been told in no uncertain terms on another board, that the men love it!

HeHe - great replies one and all - thank you and keep them coming.

I respect everyones individual opinions but I still cannot help but think of tennis as one of the more graceful ball sports, consequently a quote I read in a UK newspaper today springs to mind:

"Tennis is a beautiful sport. A sport where if you are lucky you can be witness to a delightful blend of skill, grace, elegance and power.

It is a shame therefore that a player of such tremendous ability has overlooked the more subtle side of the game. Serena's choice of outfit for her opening match of this years US Open did nothing to disguise the sheer brute strength and "in your face" style of tennis she plays.

It was definately eye-catching and was undoubtedly beneficial to her sponsors in terms of the interest it would have generated, but, subtle; stylish; elegant; graceful - I think not!

Sadly the days of seeing stylish players such as Steffi Graf gliding around the court and delivering crushing forehands with poise, balance and dignity seem to have disappeared.

Serena, while we applaud and admire your tennis we cannot say the same for your outfits. Take some advice from some of the older players and put some real clothes on - you are a woman and we recognise and salute that but do not need it thrust down our throats in the shape of tacky, cheap outfits."

Kind of a cutting statement but one which I echo wholeheartedly

Serena Williams = Great tennis - crap fashion sense!!

I just remember all the talk that surrounded outfits worn by Anna K and Daniela, and this outfit is by far the funniest one.

I dont really care about the outfit, but what was Serena thinking when she created (and I use the term loosely) this outfit.
Plus, that big arse wedgy was a classic .

By the way, how does she get out of such an outfit, she does have some major curves to get around

how come Tommy Haas had to change his shirt todaybec it had no sleeves, but Serena was allowed to keep her cat-suit on?
