MC QF: Nikolay Davydenko defeats Igor Andreev | 6-3, 4-6, 7-5

Interesting match to say the least.

Andreev lead 3-1 in the first set but then lost 5 games straight. He then lead 5-2 in another breakfest set before being pegged back to 5-4 30-30 but eventually closed out the set.

Final set Davydenko lead 1-0* and had a smash on BP, Andreev chased it down and Davy missed a simple drive volley. Andreev then lead 3-1* 30-0* and Davydenko looked like he had given up, hit a ball almost randomly down the line for a perfect winner under pressure and ended up holding. Andreev then lead 30-0 next game and got broken to level things. Davydenko then held and broke to lead *5-3, in both games Andreev had his chances.

With Davydenko serving for it Andreev got to yet more BP's but couldn't convert until a net chord got him a third BP and he finally broke. Andreev serving to stay in it, seemed inevitable that it would be hard for him to do so, held easily for 5 all. Andreev had 15-40 at 5-5 but allowed Davydenko to hold with simple returns and FH's dumped in the net. Andreev then went from 40-0 to 40-40, from 40-40 to MP Kolya, and suddenly it was GSM.

In the end it comes down to Davydenko able to hold his nerve slightly better when things really mattered and it cost Andreev the match today.

The gamblers will be out for blood after this one for sure.

MC 1/8: Davydenko def Andreev 6-3 4-6 7-5

Tight match. Davydenko and Ferrer traded breaks of serve in the final set with Davydenko taking the final blow. Davydenko faces either Ferrer (5) or Nadal (2) in the semifinals.

the people on centre court should get a refund for this match, terrible play from both players. something like...

winner, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, winner, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, winner, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, unforced error, winner, unforced error...

it was also annoying to be only able to HEAR the ball at some points because of the ball's active camouflage, it made waiting for the umpire's call or the disappointing sound of the ball hitting the net all the more painful.

winner of ferrer/nadal next.

Ye gods that was rather tedious. Here we all are straining at the leash for Fed/Nalby - bet they did it on purpose.

Re: Monte Carlo QF: Davy def. Andreev 6-3, 4-6, 7-5

Davydenko had an hard period with the spin of Andreev. It was really a close match. Andreev is unstable and irregular . A lot of breaks and break balls.
It's amazing for Andreev to lose the last game when he leads 40-0 on his serve.
