he's not bad on it. Problem for him is that 1) he's unwilling to change his game for clay (and i say unwilling instead of unable because he admits to the fact that he still just tries to play his regular game on clay), and that isn't good because guys who are really good defenders on clay get more of his big shots back and 2) his movement is not as good because he tries to move on clay like he moves on HC - sometimes he even slides AFTER he hits the ball instead of INTO the ball. So it's not that he's bad but there are a couple things that will make him almost always have trouble against the best claycourters, IMO
Sure, I completely agree, but judging by a lot of comments you would think he was complete clown. He will never be a world beater but he has always had the capacity to give even the natural claycourters a real match. I can remember him giving Moya a complete trashing last year in Hamburg before running out of steam... and this was the Moya that reached the SF. He will need a few breaks to go his way but he should be capable of winning a few rounds at Roland Garros. Maybe a first Clay title will give him more belief.
