Dark horses and floaters...

What do you guys think of their chances to make a semi or pull an upset?

Ancic is doing very well, as is Spadea, who defeated Schuettler today, lol. There is also Malisse who will take on Ancic who has been doing well, and did well in the French. I think he will make the quarters. I hope one of these men will defeat Henman or Philippoussis,

And also, nobody is talking about Mayer, Johansson or Ginepri. Do you think any of these guys can beat out Grosjean to the semis?

oh, and there's Popp, of course, but everyone is already talking about him

With each passing season, I discover new reason
SAMPRAS --> Rios --> KUERTEN --> Kafelnikov -->
Federer --> Hewitt --> RODDICK --> GONZALEZ -->
NALBANDIAN --> Benneteau --> Davydenko --> Mathieu -->
TURSUNOV --> Mantilla --> KIEFER --> NADAL -->
Karlovic --> Odesnik --> Stepanek --> Monfils -->
??

I think Malisse will probably do the best out of those players

Of course, I am barracking for Johansson!

I'm rooting for Malisse.

And wishing that Spadea would lose.

Re: Dark horses and floaters...

I didn't know whether to count him because he is talked about so much, same with Schalken just because it is not surprising he is doing well here, but not expected to win

you threw in philippoussis' name after I posted this

Mark will do the best out of all of them, but out of Mayer, Johansson, Ginepri and Ancic, I think Malisse will probably do the best, even if he does make it to the quarters and loses to either Mark or Tim, I at least see him putting up a really good fight

Whereas in the other part of the draw, I dont think any of those guys will be able to damage Grosjean

I am calling this now--I think Grosjean will be upset before the semis, ha, I know that's wild, but, oh well

If Grosjean loses to Ginepri, I'll eat my hat

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.

Re: Dark horses and floaters...

How about Flipper? He hasn't been winning any matches at all lately, now he's suddenly resurgent at Wimby, beating all comers.

And Lleyton's starting to look like the old dangerous Lleyton of yesteryear

"What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape." said Roddick with a laugh. "I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I've met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I've been completely committed ... The results have shown."

I'll kick my TV, and injure my foot in the process, but then I'd do that anyway even if he just lost a SET.

Johansson was ominously good against Bjorkman today. Those huge, flat serves were racing through constantly, leaving Jonas floundering at the baseline quite piteously. And having served 40 aces in four sets against a stellar returner, he's not looking like being broken very often. I'd expect him to be able to bully Grosjean ( ) in the quarters if they both progress.

Re: Dark horses and floaters...

Sheesh, 40 aces??!! I'm looking at the draw and wondering who will be able to break him - probably not Grosjean with his limited reach on the return, and even Hewitt or Federer in the semis would have a hard time getting his serves back.

The Wit and Wisdom of the Tennis Journalist, Indian Wells 2004

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

Re: Dark horses and floaters...

I've just looked at the stats and seen that it was only 38; I was off by two. Still, he won't be broken all that often...
