Fallen rising stars

Who have been the players in particular who impressed at first, yet never really achieved anything and never aspired to the high heights that were at first predicted??

In WTA I can think of one example - Lucic, Wimbledon semi 99, nothing since

Anybody else got any examples?

Re: Fallen rising stars

All of those on the men's side have been due to injury mostly: Haas, Flip and Magnus.

It's still too early to see if Richard Gasquet is boom or bust.

James Blake.

Re: Fallen rising stars

Mariano Zabaleta
Marc Rosset
Andreas Vinciguerra
Julian Alonso ( so fallen that he retired)

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: Fallen rising stars

well a lot of people forgot the obvious women, Kournikova, Hantuchova, and Dokic.

On the men, I would add Brian Vahaly, Jose Acasuso, and Fernando Gonzalez

Re: Fallen rising stars

dunno if this counts because of injury, but Magnus Norman??

okay, nostalgia time!!::

Puerta
Levy
Golmard (where is he now)
Tabara
-- no monumental success, but was young, a some good results, then just disappeared

Escude... kindaaaaaa, he has had injury problems and whatnot, and he has done well in Slams, always a bit mischievious

Hugo Armando
--wasn't there hype about him for like, a day?

With each passing season, I discover new reason
SAMPRAS --> Rios --> KUERTEN --> Kafelnikov -->
Federer --> Hewitt --> RODDICK --> GONZALEZ -->
NALBANDIAN --> Benneteau --> Davydenko --> Mathieu -->
TURSUNOV --> Mantilla --> KIEFER --> NADAL -->
Karlovic --> Odesnik --> Stepanek --> Monfils -->
??

Oliver Cromwell lay buried and dead. Hee-haw. Buried and dead.

Yup. He's just 18. (Although most of his fans are still impatiently waiting for his success )
