Roddick beat a physically fit Federer in 2008 & 2012.
Dsl Potro beat Nadal too, but in the end that didn't change their slam totals.

Nadal & Djokovic destroyed Roddick.... Federer cried and insulted Djokovic'a "trick shot" because he never saved a match point in a real Slam match.

Federer isn't close to his top form these days and his motivation is lacking. Family and children have become as important as winning. Old wine has a way of turning to vinegar eventually.

Re: Federer: Like A Fine Wine, Better With Age. Buy Or Sell?

I think Federer is a different player today. He has accepted his physical decline and looks to win points using tactics instead.

Previously he challenged himself to play the game of his opponent and beat him at that. He knows being Olderer he can do that to the likes of Novak, Murray and Nadal.

His defensive skills have deteriorated, exposed by defeats to Berdych, Tsonga, Delpo at slams. He has tried to replace that with guile and variations.

Mentally he is more at peace than he was in 2008. Having beautiful twin girls puts things in perspective and relaxes him from obsessing over results. That's helped his game.

Is he better? Maybe. He's different. Some areas declined, others matured.

Re: The Federer Decline Thread

im trying to find match statistics of federer matches at grand slams from the 2004-2007 period. seems to be an impossible task.. does anyone know where and if they can be found?

im interested in federers 1st serve %. I remember that it was incredible compared to now. He used to hit a lot more aces and if i remember correctly the 1st serve % was always around 80%+.

this way we will have stats to prove how much he has declined in that area

Hmm and who has Djokovic had in a slam SF right now? 31 year old Ferrer? Again you bypassed thinking when typing this...

As for Fed not declining a lot... laughably wrong.

I dont need any signature
