Re: ATP Champions Race to Shanghai 2008

Well, it all happened at Wimbledon today, with Roddick's R2 defeat freezing him well out of a potential top 5 place, although anyone watching parts of his match today would realise that he really wasn't playing tennis worthy of that level anyway.

A good chance for Wawrinka, Murray and Stepanek, in particular, to push closer to the leading 8, thanks to the further exits of Almagro and Blake...and they could open up a little bit of a gap, with #17 ranked Youzhny the next highest man left in the draw, and playing on borrowed time (Nadal would surely end his run in the R4, if Stepanek doesn't nab him first).

The Djoke won't lose points in the race, just won't add to them from Wimbledon anymore. He does lose 415 ranking points though.

If Fed reaches finals, he takes over No. 2 in the race.

Re: ATP Champions Race to Shanghai 2008

Ancic's phenomenal performance (that serving was just sick!) last night earns him his ticket (back) into the top 25, and as Croat #1 in the Race standings...

No other outsider is close enough to contend for a top 25 ranking today, although given how open two quarters of the draw are, we're likely to see a couple of players surge into the list by midway through next week.

Re: ATP Champions Race to Shanghai 2008

Okay, we're into the 2nd week of Wimbledon, and incredibly (considering some of the names still left in) 9 of the 16 players in R4 are not currently ranked in the top 25! Mathematically, only 4 of them could make the list by the end of today's action. Anyway, here they are, in order from highest ranked, to lowest:

Code:
31 Janko Tipsarevic (SRB) 125
32 Marin Cilic (CRO) 122
34 Richard Gasquet (FRA) 118
37 Lleyton Hewitt (AUS) 116
--------------------------------
42 Feliciano Lopez (ESP) 96
49 Marat Safin (RUS) 85
51 Marcos Baghdatis (CYP) 85
69 Rainer Schuettler (GER) 52
80 Arnaud Clement (FRA) 45
R4 winners, today, will each see an extra 20 points added to their totals.

And today could well be dedicated to Jerry! If Cilic wins, Ljubo becomes Croat #4.

Re: ATP Champions Race to Shanghai 2008

OMG what a day!!

None of the 4 players who had a mathematical shot at top 25 managed to win their matches today...with Gasquet's "choke" something incredible! Murray's big escape earns him a provisional place in the Shanghai line-up.

So, out of the 8 players in the QF, 4 of them are currently ranked outside the current top 25:

Code:
38 Feliciano Lopez (ESP) 116
42 Marat Safin (RUS) 105
55 Rainer Schuettler (GER) 72
59 Arnaud Clement (FRA) 65
Winners of their respective QF matches will receive an additional 40 points, meaning that certainly the winner of Safin vs. Lopez will surge into the top 25 by Wednesday.

I can't find the explanation for Tsonga/Monaco text being a slightly different colour

I would guess because they were never in Wimbledon in the first place.

I'm not really into the whole colour-code thing Judio has going in his thread...but I didn't think it really needed an explanation.

But, for what it's worth, gaynor hit the nail on the head. Anyone in black type, as a tournament(s) has started, is not in action that particular week. Anyone in grey has participated, and is out, and anyone in green is currently still in.

You're right it doesn't need an explanation. Just one of my many "senior moments"

Heeeeeere come Marat!

Okay, just the one guy in the SF who doesn't feature in the current top 25:

Code:
43 (109) Rainer Schuettler (GER) 112
Nice work this fortnight, Rainer.

Re: ATP Champions Race to Shanghai 2008

This year the number 1 ranking could go to the last match.

Nadal will enter the hard court season with a large lead over Federer and Djokovic, but will probably need it as Federer and Djokovic are much better on hard courts than Nadal.
