Re: ATP Champions Race to Shanghai 2008

Looks like Novak will really be a few streets ahead after Indian Wells. Nadal most likely gains points on the clay, but I expect Novak to picks his spots on the clay tourneys and probably preserve his race lead until Wimbledon.

Re: ATP Champions Race to Shanghai 2008

This year is a very different one

Very tough to say who will be the No 1 at the ends

GO Roger Federer, Nick Kyrgios, Borna Coric, Vasek Pospisil, Thomaz Bellucci, Kei Nishikori, , Milos Raonic, Jerzy Janowicz, Grigor Dimitrov, Dennis Novikov and Bernard Tomic

Thiem will be top three by Dec 2016
Borna Coric will be No 1 by Dec 2017
Nick Kyrgios will be No 1 by Jan 2018

Re: ATP Champions Race to Shanghai 2008

So, Djokovic claimed the Indian Wells title, and a 151pts lead over Rafa, in #2 place, and a massive 195pts lead over Federer, arguably his greater rival.

TMS Miami up next and, once again, the Race could face a good shake-up depending on results. I guess the big question is, can Fish continue to swim through the net?

Re: ATP Champions Race to Shanghai 2008

Now we're up-to-date.

Nole's shock defeat gives Federer a vital chance to plug up some of the enormous 196pts gap, and, even better for him, we have the European clay season, and grass, coming up...surfaces on which Nole isn't expected to be as "dominant" (but obviously can still do well on).

Could be a real shake-up in the top 25, with lots of seeded R3 clashes looking very possible. The bar to the top 10 rose by just 19pts after Indian Wells, and I'd be expecting a greater rise within the next 10 days.

Lets not be so quick. Matter of time before Roger gets his form back. Will soon find his motivation.

Re: ATP Champions Race to Shanghai 2008

Tipsarevic is the only guy left in the draw who isn't in the current top 25 ranking:

#34 with 59 points.

Re: ATP Champions Race to Shanghai 2008

QF doesn't cut it for Fed, still a huge gap with Djokovic. Roddick passed him too.

Nadal can potentially get closer and with the clay season coming up he may be able to get to #1 before Wimbledon (although personally I expect Djokovic to do very well on the clay).

Yep, absolutely. Doesn't cut it when Nadal and Djokovic are reliable enough to clean up in his absence. Not so bothered with Nadal extending his lead over him, but he needed to take more out of Djokovic's lead, as Nole is a huge threat on all surfaces.

Yeah it's an interesting one. Obviously, Rafa has a good shot at #1 in the Race...Entry ranking is a different story though, as we know that he has practically maximum points to defend on the dirt. Fed can certainly come down to him, if he drops enough points, but, as you mention, Nole looks to be the greater threat...a good chance for him to pick up a few points at the very least.

What a week for Davydenko!

This is now looking less likely.
