Forget about Federer and Roddick. Coria is a new grass king :))

He beat Ancic 7-6 1-6 6-3

I don't know if it's enough to consider him a major contender at Wimbledon, but pretty good recovery from miserable FO final.

well we'll see come Wimby where his grass game really is. He faces another big server right off the bat and then probably Arthurs in R2 so we'll see if he can put it together at the slam. It's happened before where a player has done quite well in a small tournament with an average draw the week before a slam only to go out in the first round or two the following week

To me, Ancic is a much bigger threat than is Arthurs. Arthurs has been playing like crap all year long.

But I'm really glad Guille had good practice against a big server who serves and volleys. It will be good for his first round match.

That's totally true but It's not the general rule

I thnk is unfair to measure him at Wimb, he got a bad draw...

Moodie, Arthurs, Ljbucic and Fish!
Four 135 mph+ big servers in a row!

I am more than satisfied with what he has done this week.
And he got points equal to almost a 4th round...

he still has the points of buenos aires, basel, kitzbuhel, stuttgart and sopot, so, winning this will not add points to his ranking, winning in wimbledon would add points to his ranking.

I miss: Ivan Lendl, Korda, Novak, Bruguera, Rios, Kucera, Courier, Mantilla, Costa, Santoro and Ferreira.

Good luck to:

Gaudio, Murray, Florian Mayer, Chela, Nalbandian, Radek Stepanek, Volandri, Youzhny and Verdasco.

I'm very impressed with Coria's results (unfortunately haven't seen any of his performances), but it doesn't get him any points, even if he wins. He's won too many optional events already

It's too bad this tournament has a Sunday final.... then he has not one day off before traveling to London to play at Wimby....

Re: Forget about Federer and Roddick. Coria is a new grass king :))

Points would be nice but he isn't all about points. He has a love for the game and he wants to prove that he deserves to be #3 in the world. I give him a lot of credit for putting himself out there like that and trying so hard. He has a work ethic that is really very impressive. And he is so committed . . . maybe losing the French took some pressure off of him.

Re: Forget about Federer and Roddick. Coria is a new grass king :))

That's not totally correct Lurker, he won't add now, but he will avoid loosing points very soon:

Because he won't play the 3 tourneys in a row in clay this year (he isn't even sure if he will do 2 -Sopot is out, Kitzbuhel is in doubt-, he has 725 in optionals on July taht he won't defend), so as soon as next month Coria's ranking will fall, and these points will come into play then (his sixth optional till now was only 15 points)...

Of course it would be better if he does well like 2nd week, but he has a toguh draw, he may be tired (he played 2 matches today) and his shoulder is bothering him a bit, according to his own words...

Yes I was thinking that too, especially as Nottingham already finished. Pity that the finalists in Rosmalen are both in the top half of the draw, so they will actually have to play on Monday, unless Wimbledon give them a special arrangement.

Guille has now reached final in all 4 surfaces. He's also the player with more finals in the season (6). I hope he'll finally start to be considered an all-surface player...
