LONDON, June 18 (AFP) - Former Wimbledon semi-finalist Alexandra Stevenson went down to a stormy defeat in the final qualifying round for this year's tournament on Thursday.
The American 23-year-old stormed off court kicking over two chairs and 'unintentionally' spraying water over the back of the Czech Republic's Eva Birnerova who had won their match 7-6 (9/7), 7-6 (7/4).
Birnerova, ranked 116 and playing her second qualifying tournament, complained about the behaviour of her opponent who made her name by reaching the semi-finals as a qualifier in 1999, the first woman to do so.
"She threw water at me and I will be reporting it to the referee," insisted the Czech girl.
