Almagro crushes Massu 6/3 6/2

6 of Massu's 15 victories at ATP level in 2007 came in the Latin American tour. He was 6-2 right there. Now he is 0-2... and, if Capdeville defeats Blake, he could surpass him and become the 2nd chilean in rankings.

Good win for Almagro, hopefully he can play well during the Spring clay season this year.

Champions deserve whatever they win playing within the laws of the game

One, Paul won't beat James unless James decides he wants a vacation.

Two, I think that Nico's problems go beyond whether he's 2nd or 3rd racquet.

Paul always has been and always will be a journeyman.

Nico has proved that he can be a top player. Unfortunately, I highly doubt that he'll ever be a top player again unless he makes some major changes in personnel and his mental game.

Massu was leading with a break twice I think. He was 3-1 in the first set...

One, Paul has beaten Blake before. Not that he's gonna do it tomorrow.

Two, I'm not talking about Nico's problems. I'm talking about his slump. The future of a player that reached the top 10 thanks to work and discipline and after that he just makes probably the dumbest decissions in every aspect of tennis (coach selection, tournaments selection, training, playing strategy, etc), it's probably material enough for a sepparate thread.

Three, Paul can only be a journeyman at best. That's known for everybody. Still, there are journeymen and journeymen. Some of them were even in the top 10. The fact is, he is going to surpass Massu sooner or later.

Personally, I think that there's no way back for Nico. 2003 was a great season. 2004 was a good season. 2005 was a nigthmare. 2006 was an acceptable season with a terrible luck in draws. 2007 was 2005 two times (he was even compared with Spadea, for god's sake). February of 2008, an the slump continues... and he's 28 already.

Re: Almagro crushes Massu 6/3 6/2

I wonder how Almagro at his best would perform against Djokovic on clay. See this Marseille 1r: [3] A. Murray def. [Q] J. Huta Galung 6-4, 6-4 for my motivation and no, I will not bring this up to every result thread.
