What players should France bring against the US?

And what should the lineup be...

I think Tsonga and Gasquet should partner up against the Bryans for the French to have the best shot in doubles, but at the same time it seems like those two are also the best for singles. Monfils is questionable and has been out for awhile, and Mathieu in Davis Cup, there is potential for disaster there.

Tim Henman--Gael Monfils--James Blake--Donald Young--Rafael Nadal--Jo-Wilfried Tsonga--John Isner--Janko Tipsarevic--Richard Gasquet.

Re: What players should France bring against the US?

Santoro/Llodra should play doubles.
Gasquet is obviously playing singles, no matter what. We'll have to see about Tsonga. Very well possible, that Mathieu will be back in the team for the tie against USA.

Re: What players should France bring against the US?

The same team as they used this week. It's a very strong combination.

Tsonga could be swapped for Paulo or Gilles depending on how he backs up this season.

Filippo VOLANDRI, Pablo ANDUJAR, Yuki BHAMBRI, Fabio FOGNINI, Thomaz BELLUCCI,
Santiago GIRALDO, Donald YOUNG, Gael MONFILS, Juan Martin DEL POTRO, Alexandr DOLGOPOLOV

Simon|Mathieu|Falla|Bolelli|Kyrgios|Verdasco
Monaco|Garcia-Lopez|Dancevic|Granollers|Cilic|Schwank
Wolmarans|Ferrer|Robredo|Alcaide|Starace

Re: What players should France bring against the US?

Gasquet and Tsonga have the best chance in the singles, and given that Llodra and Clement have won Wimbledon and been runners-up at the AO in the past year, you have to think they have a shot at beating the Bryans.

Santoro doesn't play Davis Cup anymore, though, does he? And he and Llodra haven't played together in a few years, so it probably makes more sense to keep Llodra and Clement together.

Re: What players should France bring against the US?

Well, I just think that the doubles team Llodra/Santoro would have more potential. And as you said, they played together in the past, so they know how to do it.
Good question about Santoro. No idea if he even wants to be nominated. The last time that he had his comeback in the team, was after his great Aussie Open run iirc.

Re: What players should France bring against the US?

Gasquet and Tsonga - they play it all. However Llodra could be good for doubles - and either Gasquet or Tsonga as his partner, probably Tsonga. I didn't see the doubles today but sounds like Clement sucked it up as he has done in previous matches.

Since France has to bring more than 2 - I'll say Gasquet, Tsonga, Llodra, and Santoro - remember what he did to Blake (it was Blake at the USO or am I having a senior moment?)and he can play doubles. But maybe it's best to keep a doubles team together so I'll say Clement too. Clement/Llodra did win Wimbly

Re: What players should France bring against the US?

I would take Gasquet Tsonga & Santoro/Llodra
Fabrice Santoro has beaten the Bryan brothers 10 times in his career winning matches with four different partners against the team.

I would leave Clement out.

I support......
Fabrice Santoro

The Magician

Marcos Baghdatis Fernando Gonzalez

Florian Mayer Gustavo Kuerten Richard Gasquet

Feliciano Lopez Lukasz Kubot Hyung-Taik Lee Younes El Alynaoui Dick Norman Aisam Qureshi Dusan Vemic Michal Przysiezny Ernests Gulbis Carlos Moya Andy Murray Jonas Bjorkman Andrei Pavel Olivier Patience Mariano Zabaleta Jarkko Nieminen Fyrstenberg/Matkowski

I'd like to see Santoro in the team too. Trouble is, not sure Forget would select him...

Re: What players should France bring against the US?

Why bring in PHM?

Unless Tsonga sucks a fat one in IW and Miami, i see no reason to. PHM's lack of balls in pressure situations (as this tie should be, its rather even) should tip the scale in Tsonga's favor.

As for doubles, Llodra/Clement have had some great success, but i dont think they can beat Bryans. Santoro/Llodra would yield a better chance of victory.
