1 of 1Full SizeSIBIU, Romania (Reuters) - Australian Open finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and world number seven Richard Gasquet put former champions France 2-0 up against Romania on the opening day of their Davis Cup world group tie on Friday.
The 21-year-old Gasquet looked tense at the start against Victor Hanescu, the world number 76, but soon found his rhythm to win 7-6 6-4 7-5.
Davis Cup debutant Tsonga, who beat three top-10 players in the Australian Open last month, dropped the first set against former top-20 player Andrei Pavel, 34, but came back to win 6-7 6-4 6-4 6-4.
On Saturday, Romania's Florin Mergea and Horia Tecau will play Arnaud Clement and Michael Llodra in the doubles.
