While still playing professional tennis part-time, David currently serves on the Board of Directors of the United States Tennis Association.

Re: Another .. average american fan article

Actually what he points out is pretty darn good and i'm for one all for it.

The part about ESPN is way to generous though. ESPN needs to share with the tennis channel. If TTC can start the LIVE coverage when ESPN can't, then continue live coverage on their network and allow TTC to cover the grandstand court or court one, we'd get a shit load of tennis. The ideas he had were top notch, although ESPN would have to stop being so blantanly biased and completly disrespectful to the rest of the tennis players.

Re: Another .. average american fan article

Why do some people assume that when the popularity of a sport goes down, it means you have to change the sport?

The popularity of tennis will sometimes go up, sometimes go down depending of the country. I'm sure after Graf retired, womens tennis popularity went down (which explain why tournements like Hamburg and Leipzig are cancelled), does that mean that they have to change rules in Germany? Does that mean players should have their names printed on their shirts there?

Like if the popularity of a sport would drastically change for small changes of rule or a name printed on their shirt.

Quote:
I want to hear how Andy Roddick is feeling after his morning practice. I want to hear if Venus Williams sounds confident in the tunnel before her match. I want to hear Andre Agassi’s coach, Darren Cahill, talk about tactics during Agassi’s matches.
I don't.

Maybe ESPN should show a close view of Marat's blisters, so the american average fan - the same who enjoys MTV's "jackass" and the :retard: reality shows - can connect to the sport

Only when the Grand Slams can inspire droves of young people to take up the game and impel flocks of fans to attend tournaments or watch them on television will a tennis revival take place in our country. Then we’ll all sing, Hallelujah!
David Wheaton singing Hallelujah.. That would be nice

The Australian and French Opens had excellent crowds this year, in Australia it was the second best ever and in France it was one of the best ever crowd attendences.

David Wheaton just should have punched Brad Gilbert when he had the chance.

Re: Another .. average american fan article

I wonder what players think of 5-5 tiebreak matches. I think it'll be easier to win and also lose such matches (all matches will be one sided because there would be no time for the losing player to change anything), but they might welcome the decreased match time. One thing I know is this: a tennis fan wouldn't want short matches.

The name on the shirt idea is useless. I think when you switch the TV and tennis is on you don't need much time to determine who's who anyway.

About the interviews... I wouldn't mind seeing them, and that's the best suggestion. Play introductions are good too. But I'm against disturbing players before the match. And this part: "I want to hear how Andy Roddick is feeling after his morning practice. I want to hear if Venus Williams sounds confident in the tunnel before her match" is insane. The last thing a player wants to do when he's not feeling well is tell the opponent that. The tactics are a top secret as well.
