Now that the Final is drawing near

How does everyone see the players faring in terms of rankings? Which players can make an ascent, and which players are on their way down in the 2008 season?

Up-
Tsonga
Djokovic
Nadal (can snatch the number 1 ranking for a few weeks)
PHM
Ferrero
Monaco
Gasquet
del Potro
Tipsarevic (possibly top 25)
Kohlschreiber
Cilic

Filippo VOLANDRI, Pablo ANDUJAR, Yuki BHAMBRI, Fabio FOGNINI, Thomaz BELLUCCI,

Re: Now that the Final is drawing near

Tsonga might go far if he is not going to have problems with injuries. For Tipsarevic, I doubt he can go over 30... He is typical big match player that doesn't give a s... when he plays against players that are worse then him. Thats why he is ranked so low. Djoko and Nadal will struggle for No. 2, but there is no way that Fed will just like that give No. 1 to either of them in following weeks. Maybe, but just maybe after the USO. Cilic has a chance to advance, but no chance he will reach top 20 this year. U forgot Hewitt. He may enter top 10 pretty soon.

I don't think Nadal will be able to get the No. 1 spot. Fed has too many points to gain at Indian Wells and Miami.

Haha I like the way they're you're fave players. I agree on Tsonga, Djokovic, Ferrero, Monaco, Tipsy and Kohlschreiber out of that list. I think Nadal will fall to number 3 as much as I hate to admit it. Who knows whats going on with PHM. I'm not sure about Gasquet. It's hard to tell with JMDP since he was injured, and I really don't know that much about Cilic either.

JUAN CARLOS FERRERO

Juan Monaco, Tommy Robredo, Fernando Gonzalez, Juan Martin Del Potro, David Ferrer, Guillermo Garcia Lopez, Juan Ignatio Chela, Fernando Verdasco, Carlos Moya, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Lucas Arnold Ker, Nicolas Lapentti

Not really, 5 are favourites and the other 6 are not. Nadal I do not think is up to the level of a consistent world number 1. But in terms of points this year all signs are pointing to the fact that he will claim that ranking- even if for only 1 or 2 weeks. Gasquet can take a place in the top 5 at some stage and you're right about Paulo. Anything is possible with him.

If Juan Martin is able to overcome his back injury, he's overdue for a soft draw at one of the slams. Slam results as we know are worth big points, and he's been extremely unlucky with his draws.

Lots of players are unluck

No one has a guarantee to be luck

That's not question. If you are the guy as Djok or Tsonga, you don't need be luck in your draw

Re: Now that the Final is drawing near

I think Djokovic is much more likely to get injured than Tsonga. Djokovic is awesome on HC, but do you know what the big reason for that is?

Biggest reason is that he is willing to KimClijster his body by sliding on these hardcourts. He is basically trading off intense wear on his lower body in return for HC wins. I could tell that his knees are bothering him already (see 3rd set of SF).

Also, his slender upper body will give him some shoulder issues. He uses an 'elastic whip' type effect to absolutely crush the ball. But his shoulder muscles aren't thick enough to take that pounding for a long time.

Re: Now that the Final is drawing near

I believe in Tsonga but really fear he will suffer with staying fit for a whole year, let's hope not! Djokovic has been a fovourite to follow for me, If Roger and Rafa slip up he'll be there to take over. I was impressed with Tipsarevic and
Kohlschreiber's performance in this GS but did they just rise to the Federer match? There's my 4 to keep an eye on for now.

I agree with Del Potro. Provided he remains healthy he can do really really well. He's got the potential to be top 10, just by watching him play you can see that he's got so much talent. He just needs to develop it a bit further.

Tsonga - should be able to finish top 20 now, with his 700 point cushion

Djokovic - Federer's greatest threat to world #1.

Nadal - no higher than #2

PHM - top 30

Ferrero - top 40

Monaco - has the ability to stay in top 20

Gasquet - top 12

Del Potro - top 40...I really don't see the hype that others see in him. He is a good player, but inconsistency/"immobility" will probably hold him back for a reasonable chunk of the season (e.g. biggest clay events)

Tipsarevic - top 50. Has potential to be higher-ranked (top 35), but often seems to get injured

Kohlschreiber - ability to stay in top 20

Cilic - top 40
