surprise winner

so we have had gaudio win the french open, to me, i think that it is a real surprise, i thought coria would win. Alas no i did not happen, so what "surprise " winner do you want to see win wimby?

Nieminen- The lucky lefty of tennis.
Sampras- The hairy champion of tennis.
Ferrero- The mosquito of tennis.
Srichaphan- The Thai- ger of tennis.
Safin - The of tennis.
Bagdatis- The quotesman of tennis "my coach will watch, i will sleep with my girlfriend"
Kiefer- The naive guy, "yeh, me and seb are good friends"
Santoro- The double handed wizard of tennis.
Lopez- IS my hair right? IS my lipstick right?
Moya- The tatoo and muscles of tennis (although nadal kicks his ass in that department).
Tipsarevic- The tatoo of tennis, competing with moya.
Djokovic- Stole Jiri's surname

Sorry if I left out your favourite, just PM me to let me know-- thanks.

Re: surprise winner

Nicolas Escudé would be my pick - has a classic s&v game, can beat the best of them, has had a lot of injuries. It would be great to see him do win the big W.

(Don't ask me to support him though if he plays Roger or Tim!)

Re: surprise winner

i have to go with Safin -- altho' i realise that it's not such an impossibility. he certainly has the game for it - just not the head...

it would be a surprise to me if he won...but i would be quite happy about it.

my true surprise pick will be --------- Coria. now THAT would be a shocker, no!?

Re: surprise winner

Good point. How long has it been since there was a surprise winner at Wimbledon? Doesn't happen very often (and even less often at the USO).

The last two were hardly surprises, and whilst Ivanisevic's win wasn't expected in 2001, he wasn't an unlikely winner, having been in the final three times previously.
Krajicek would be the last one, I suppose, or maybe Michael Stich?

Re: surprise winner

I would like to see nalbandian or grosjean winning, or even more unlikely, escude, kucera or wayne ferreira

I miss: Ivan Lendl, Korda, Novak, Bruguera, Rios, Kucera, Courier, Mantilla, Costa, Santoro and Ferreira.

Good luck to:

Gaudio, Murray, Florian Mayer, Chela, Nalbandian, Radek Stepanek, Volandri, Youzhny and Verdasco.
