Baghdatis's behavior in his match versus Hewitt (first set)

No mods, this is not a livescore thread - don't worry.

I just started watching the Baghdatis-Hewitt match and Baghdatis's behavior has been very unlike him. I got the impression that he was almost taunting the audience as he saved the break points that Hewitt had. My question, thus, is: did anyting happen between him and the audience prior to that?

i guess it's about letting out the anger and excitement about a) the local time and the road ahead, b) the youtube thing and c) guys screaming in favor of hewitt.

maybe a mix of those. i doubt that he means it in any offensive way, he's not like that.

This will end up being locked or deleted.

Well, when the media are trying to sensationalise a BBQ gathering into a major incident and getting clowns saying he should be deported.

All before a match with Hewitt, well not surprising.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

He shouted something but it wasn't clear. I think it might had to do with what the tabloids had done the previous day in an attempt to influence him and his performance against Hewitt. When he saved the break points he shouted to himself like he was pointing out that he's not going to be influenced and he will play his best tennis.

He was actually pointing to his box when he said it (from what I can tell) so it wasn't a quarrel with the crowd imo but I can't be sure.

I agree and that is why I was surprised. He is usually very mild-mannered. Ah well, thanks for the answers, everyone!

Re: Baghdatis's behavior in his match versus Hewitt (first set)

Baghdatis's screeching through one service game was a bit much. I guess he felt like he needed to do that against Hewitt, who can be quite intense himself. Of course, I haven't seen the entire match; just started watching a few minutes ago.

Re: Baghdatis's behavior in his match versus Hewitt (first set)

A really plausible theory is that his coach gave him a speech about what happened and psyched him up so that he forgets it and play well. Saving those 2 break points meant a lot to him and he might have been pointing to his coach stating that I won't be influenced.

Maybe someone heard his exact words though and might enlighten us further.

I don't see why this should be locked/deleted. The incident in question has already passed and scores are not being discussed.

that someone would probably need to speak greek though and have some big ears, which kinda narrows it down a bit.

Re: Baghdatis's behavior in his match versus Hewitt (first set)

Jesus, whatever he does he will still be an angle compared to Hewitt(i`m talking in general)!but we should also remember Marcos`s previous match.i believe that his is getting overexcited!he`s an emotional player and a second huge match like this one in front of him...it`s a little bit too much for him...and imagine if he wins and he meets Nole in the 4th round, the fans from Cyprus against the Serbia ones and those 2 showmen against each other!i can`t see any of them staying calm if the match is too tight!!!!can`t wait!!!

Open Their Eyes,Nole!
