Players with weird service actions.

Which players, past or present, have some of the most weird service actions? Obviously Schalken's is a little strange, and i have heard that Gonzalez has a very strange motion too, though i have never had the "pleasure" of watching him play! Any others?

Re: Players with weird service actions.

When steffi graf and Johnny Mac played mixed doubles at wimbledon, the opposing women in the first round had a service so weird the croud cracked up

Re: Players with weird service actions.

Karsten Braasch the third best ever German player of all time has a service action like a contortionist on LSD in a blender going at 100k/h.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: Players with weird service actions.

GeorgeW already hit the jackpot... I think there is hardly any more weird service action than Braasch's
(at least not of players that I have seen playing)

the weirdness of Braasch's serve action is almost unsurpassable

Carlos --- C'MON Lleyton!!! --- Kiwi!!! --- Jürgen --- Juan

Best of luck to all Germans : Nicolas Kiefer | Rainer Schüttler | Lars | Florian | Tommy

Kapros on the women's side...

And I've always thought that Rainer had a weird service action on the men's...

yes, Rainer's serve action is quite short and he has almost no "loop backswing" (difficult to express for me in English, but I hope you know what I mean)
also his ball toss is relatively low (at least it always seems to me)

Yes we know what you mean.

I sit next to this guy at IW who knows a lot about tennis and hosts his own amature tennis tournament. He was telling me that the loop is going to disappear from service motions. They are actually teaching kids now not to have that long wind up. I don't know if that is true or not, but passing it along for what it is worth.

Weird that since commentators usually refer to the German players having a high ball toss.

graf had a very very high ball toss, like Hrbaty.

Zabaleta and many argentineans + Gonzalez have a very strange serve too.

I think well I am sure I said it on another thread but jim couriers serve used to freak me out he dipped his head in like a tortoises head going back in its shell before his ball toss and his arms didnt look natural.

Don Johnson had a weird action if i remember correctly. Does he still play now? Why did he split with Jared Palmer?

I remember that so well! I have it on tape. Wimbledon 1999. 5 years already?!?! You cannot be serious!!!
The other team they were facing had a woman who had a high ball toss, but while winding up her arm and raising it to serve, it sort of jerked a bit like she had a reflex she was born with and it would twitch! By the first game she had to serve, the audience was laughing and when it was break time, Steffi and John were hiding their laughing faces with their towels. The audience stopped laughing later on due to politeness.
