Re: 2012 MTF Mug of the Month: Leo Mayer surges into the August lead

We have to take the USO into account. Leo Mayer won his 1st round match, while Troicki lost to Stebe. This was Stebe's 3rd victory on outdoor hard this year. The others were in a Kazakhstani challenger and a victory over Cipolla back in March, in Miami R1.

Supporting the unusual strokes gang: Dolgopolov, Mayer, Mannarino, Tomic

Nah, I'll stick with Shitkovsky because of his whining.

Mugrin by a mile for September. It was against a top player but it was worthy of a WTA performance.

There should have a "Choke of the Month" thread, then Cilic would be the winner.

Actually, he was leading 4-2 in the tie, before choking again

Mugrin, no contest

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”

Re: 2012 MTF Mug of the Month: Cilic setting the standard early for September

That Cilic choke was unreal. From 6-3, 5-1, he won a grand total of 3 games the rest of the match

Will be tough to top.

Re: 2012 MTF Mug of the Month: Cilic setting the standard early for September

meh, Cilic should not get it. Had he lost 2,2 and 2 he wouldn't even be in the conversation and yet when he did perform better than expected by taking a set, but lost the lead, he's the front runner?

against Murray no less, who owns him H2H, not really unexpected

True. He made a QF at a slam after a long long time and wasn't really expected to win against Murray. People just fascinated by his dramatic choke that's all.

It's not just that he lost it, it's also how he lost it.

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”

Did you watch Tsonga's match against Klizan?

Nope, why?

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”
