yeh Tomic has been gash lately

i'm a little nervous.

he's got his sights firmly set on spadea's record, but can young possibly lose to ~#400 WC steve johnson?

this will show us how badly young really wants that record.

DY has now lost to an impressive 13 opponents in a row, and counting:

John Isner (Memphis)
Ryan Sweeting (Delray Beach)
Steve Darcis (Indian Wells)
David Goffin (Miami)
Benoit Paire (Casablanca)
Paul-Henri Mathieu (Monte Carlo)
Viktor Troicki (Madrid)
Gilles Simon (Rome)
Thomaz Bellucci (Nice)
Grigor Dimitrov (Roland Garros)
Jamie Baker (Eastbourne)
Mikhail Youzhny (Wimbledon)
Michael Russell (Newport)

Can he keep this streak going long enough to break Spadea's world record losing run of 21 losses in a row?

Good luck Don, I'll be rooting for you.

It's an interesting one. Depends on whether Young loses to Johnson, as 14 > 6 (and none of Tomic's opponents [except maybe the Fog] were that bad on paper)

RIP Henry Chinaski. A true MTF legend

Re: 2012 MTF Mug of the Month: Tomic and Young lead for July

If that Tomic interview about having the talent to make SFs had occured in July, he'd be my pick. Being bageled by an opponent serving 19% is pretty bad.

As it is, Donald Young pulls in front thanks to losing to Steve Johnson in front of his home crowd. The fact this wasn't unexpected despite Johnson never having won an ATP match shows how far Donald has fallen with this losing streak.

Andy Murray: 2012 Olympic gold and silver medalist. US Open Champ. Wimbledon champ. Never been prouder of him.

The Brian Baker Story. Proof that truth is stranger than fiction... until Hollywood buys the rights and proceeds to keep screwing the script up.

As much as I dislike Tomic, surely Donald Young gets mug of the month. Maybe even year.

well because sometimes players do stuff that is way out of line (see Llodra en Nalbandian earlier this year), but if we would be speaking about achievements.. beats me. He surely gets my vote this month.

It's not like Young lost these matches to shit players. But the fact that's he's lost like what? 14 in a row, sounds pretty rotten.

14 in a row is correct. Which also means 13 straigt round one exits. I believe this is a record. Vincent Spadea lost 21 in a row, but he had 'byes to the second round a couple of times, plus three of the losses were in team tennis.

Surely Young will get Mug of the Month for a new record round one exit-streak.

Tomic for the month, Young for the year

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”

Re: 2012 MTF Mug of the Month: Tomic and Young lead for July

Tomic has got plenty of time though, Young has yet to win it, and he's rapidly ceasing to become relevant as being a 'mug', rather than this now being his usual level.
