Albert Portas has retired.

Albert Portas announced his retirement from professional tennis. He defeated Norman, Hewitt, Ferrero to win only ATP singles title in Masters Series Hamburg (also won 1 doubles title in Umag - w/Lopez-Moron d Ljubicic/Zovko). Portas reached a career-high ATP ranking of No. 19 (Oct 2001) and finished with a 142 - 198 career record.

Announced by the ATP.

Best twitter posts of the epic match:

@dougrobson - Whoever is supplying Mahut with hair gel needs to ink a sponsorship deal now.

@Wimbledon - FYI, with @Wimbledon live scoring devices, please add 50 to the games in the fifth set of the Isner v Mahut match.

@HolterMedia - Nice to see that a three-day test has come to tennis here @wimbledon.

Re: Albert Portas has retired.

His dropshots will be missed. Wise decision to retire though, as he seemed very angry on the court as his tennis was falling apart this year. I watched his last match on the main tour, against Hrbaty in Monte Carlo. He was up 5-2 in the first set but completely fell apart, losing 6-7, 5-7.
